I've been chatting with an online buddy and he pointed out Roxas's actions at the end of Days didn't make a whole lot of sense, and I think he's right. Referencing the game's script and looking at DDD's memoir thingy, Roxas was obeying Xion's dying wish by releasing all the hearts they captured and freeing Kingdom Hearts.

However, in the end of Days, Roxas says, "I'm going to set Kingdom Hearts free! Then everything can go back to the way it was! Me, and Axel, and... and her can go on having ice cream together." He then goes onto say, "I have to find this Sora person, and freeing Kingdom Hearts is the only way! I want Xion back. I want my life back!"

Going by the lines in bold, my friend and I are confused. What, exactly, would freeing Kingdom Hearts accomplish? It looks to me that Roxas was taking a shot in the dark there. Yeah, Roxas knows he has a connection to Sora, and Xion told him she's going back to Sora, confirming she has a connection to him too, but what would Kingdom Hearts do for him? Am I missing something here, because otherwise it doesn't seem like Roxas thought his cunning plan all the way through.

no he sed once i free kingdom hearts then i can meet this sora person

I think it's more frantic assumptions of Roxas' part

I mean, as far as we've been shown, Kingdom Hearts can do ANYTHING

It just doesn't

This may only be a guess... But perhaps Roxas understood that by being with Sora after fulfilling Xion's wish he could then be with Xion too. But my theory kinda ends there as it doesnt really include Axel.

Edit: Unless he had faith that Sora and Axel would be friends...but that too is a stretch and is giving Roxas way too much credit xD

His memories of Xion were fading because she was gone, so at that time he'd have trouble remembering her name and face and at the end of Days before the final battle Xion looks like Sora, so he'd easily mix them up. But he also wanted to meet Sora because Xion said she'd be with him(figuratively of course). Kingdom Hearts comes in because Xion told him to fix her mistake or undo what she'd done(whichever it was something along those lines) and their job in the Organization was collecting hearts to complete Kingdom Hearts, so to undo what she'd done he'd have to release Kingdom Hearts and set all the hearts they'd trapped free...

Wow... when you saying it like that

Xion's a bitch :P

Shes a teenage girl... no teenage girl ever tells her best guy friends what is exactly on her mind....ever.

actually your right. Roxas was acting very ignorant and stupid at the end of the game. i mean jeez would it kill you if u had just listened to riku in the first place? it was kinda pointless, but they obviously made that part in the game to show how roxas was sent to the virtual twilight town in the first place. otherwise the end of days was pointless.

That is sooo true.

I was just greatly annoyed at her character sometimes :P

And also has no trouble beating their friends with a magic sword?

Interesting. None of my fembuddies did that

Did you miss the part where Riku replies by saying something along the lines of "If you try and make contact with kingdom hearts the last thing you'll get is your life back"

But to answer your question he wasn't thinking, he was angry and frustrated, and confused, but I'm not surprised, Roxas seems like one of the more impulsive characters in the series.

That was my assumption, too. DDD's memoir thingy specifically says Roxas was confused and angry, so it could've been a hasty assumption. I think my confusion also comes from me not being entirely sure what "freeing" Kingdom Hearts entails. Xion tells him to go free all those hearts, which would destroy the Kingdom Hearts Xemnas was working on. In that case, how would doing so lead him to Sora, and thus Xion?

I know that Roxas's plans wouldn't have worked out in the end, and Riku knew it, but the point was Roxas didn't. And yeah, DDD's memoir did mention Roxas was confused and angry and wasn't really thinking things through.

I'd say that title goes to Sora

It's just that he has GOOD impulses

Well, Roxas has a very limited idea of the scope of the things he's dealing with. As well as a very limited idea of how the world works

I doubt he HAD a plan to free the hearts, but I'm sure if he'd gotten there he would have gotten some help from Xion, somehow

But yeah, I think Roxas was just under the impression everything would work out

  • 4 weeks later...

Well he is Sora's Nobody and he was only one year old.

I was that online buddy btw! Woot!

Xion knew the true reason as to why to free the hearts. She told Roxas not to let Xemnas finish Kingdom Hearts, because she knew what was actually happening. Roxas didn't...he just thought that by destroying Kingdom Hearts, he'd have a way to get to Sora and then find Xion that way, but his ideas were way out of proportion for one and two he was really confused and angry and much more. The way I see it, Roxas' brain was all scrambled up.

Yet. They haven't done it yet.
