Because the America flag is symbolic of our country. It's the pride and joy of America. So burning the flag shows utter disrespect to the people who died for you, and disrespect for the people of the country.

I don't see how people can find someone burning their flag offensive when it doesn't personally harm them

I lived in a catholic area and my mothers english, and on bon fire night people set a union jack on fire and posted it through out letter box (which is even more assholey considering me and my sister were 7 and 8 at the time. I get hatred but not caring about harming wee kids, seriously)
