Would you join your nation's military?

Posted

We were talking about this in my history class and I wonder what you guys think.

Personally, I'd only join if there was a likely hood of me being drafted. That way I won't get one month of training and be sent over seas as cannon fodder. I would get a decent amount of time for training and be able to reach a rank that isn't expendable and I'd be able to choose which branch to go into.

It is better to die for the emperor than to live for yourself.

I'd shoot myself in the leg or go to jail before joining the military.

Im sure the world is hoping I dont join the military, or there wont be anything left to protect.

Just curious at to why you're that opposed to the military? Most Armed Forces members don't even fight or get deployed overseas for combat. From a strictly business point of view, when you get out of the military, you've basically got yourself a garuntee to any management position in any company. And the pay used to suck, but nowadays, it's pretty dang good.

It's my ethics, not anything against the people in the military specifically. Even if I'm not deployed to fight, I'd know I'm in an organization where it's legal to kill people. It's sick to me. It is and will always be my opinion that killing someone is wrong, no matter what. No one has the right to make that decision, just because of differences.

I would because one i would be getting paid to travel the world instead to having to pay traveling it, two i would be able to meet new people(maybe some from kh13.com or not) and see new or old sites and three we're all going to die anyways it just depends on how we die, so why bother living a miserable life in one place wishing to go to other places when youd be doing it anyways, and also its not always about war places like canada britain france some of the u.s. Are trying to bring peace and good health to those of the unfortanite and weak and stopping people from harming and bombing places like the u.s. Without much use of guns, yes there is a alternate way to do it without deaths and casualties but it does not help when they shoot first and try to bomb the states and cause much problems to canada and the u.n. As it does the states themselves, so its a yes and no thing and a use of guns or not. Things happen life continues on without everchanging evelution without us even knowing just depends on who wants to move forward in life or be left behind

Draft is gone and even if it would still exist here, they would not want me there, lol.

No one is using a handicapped person to do such kind of... jobs.

Btw: My brother managed it to avoid it... he had a job so no one was bothering him xD

If you aren't called to the draft then your not dodging it. The only time you are avoiding the draft is when they actually try to draft you.

I don't know exactly about it to be honest, because it was never a problem for me and well, I meant it as a joke, kinda. Sorry, that was not the best way to mention this.

I'm not certain what country your in, but the draft is not gone as far as I know. Iy's just not needed at the moment. Most countries have plenty of volunteers for what needs to be done these days.

I suppose if there that if the U.S needed soldiers, then I would volunteer to help, but I don't think that I'm brave enough to go to war, as long as there are enough soldiers. It takes a special kind of person to do that. Bless the troops guys, they deserve it.

I refuse to go to war, Even if there was a draft.

Not because I'm a coward, I don't see why we need to fight over our problems where we can all come together and create a mutual understanding. Not fight using your own people as game pieces while the countries are the gameboard. what is this battleship

The only way the nations of the world could get along peacefully is if one nation annihilated all of the others.

Who in their right mind would choose to live by that philosophy?

Screw you, Fire Nation. You killed off the Air Nomads. ;-;

The only way the nations of the world could get along peacefully is if one nation annihilated all of the others.

Note, at this point their would be no nations to unite, only one. Also I doubt it would be successful what with civil War being a thing.

I'd say

The only way the nations of the world could get along peacefully is if we found something to unite to fight and hate.

Like Watchmen.

Who in their right mind would choose to live by that philosophy?

Um, a lot of people? :// All of Japan in WW2, and the same philosophy applies for many people in many other nations. I would rather die for my country than live for myself. Because when you die for your country, you are saving other people's lives. Kind of like the Air Force Pararescue motto: So that others may live. I think it's kind of insulting and sad that you think no one would ever put their country, their president, or the lives of those they love above their own. Are you saying you would save your own life rather than be okay with dying for the life of someone else?

If they were someone/something I personally cared about, then yes, I'd see it as noble. But I'm not so altruistically-inclined that I'd give my life for someone I've never met. Leaders of a country aren't an exception.

Saying "the emperor" doesn't literally mean just him. It's somewhat metaphorical for the whole country and everyone in it. It's for everyone.

I don't believe in countries in the first place. That's what causes differences to fight over. And religious extremists, but they're impossible to track. Seriously, why have different countries in the first place?

It's a fault in human's character. We just have to be the best, and we'll do anything to get it. Just like the atomic bomb. It seriously makes me sick every time I think of it. It's just horrible. I don't think there is any emergency that would require something that drastic, especially on a major CIVILIAN area.

We are almost forced to have countries. Even if we had one giant nation, at some point, people would rebel and we'd be in a whole mess of trouble. It wouldn't be one part of the world in turmoil, it'd be all 7 billion of us.

I see where you're coming from, but it would sadly never work. I wish there was no war in the world, and yet I have always dreamed of growing up and becoming a Marine. In theory anything is perfect, but in practice, it almost never is.

Not really sure where the atomic bomb came in xD But the atomic bomb was very easily justified. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were port cities, and their destruction would cripple the Japanese Navy (which prevents more deaths on both sides). And Japan's plan was to basically have all of their citizens commit suicide if America reached their shores. It sounds really mean, but it's true. All of those people would have died anyway. LESS people died because we dropped the bomb. The Emperor was ordering people to jump off of cliffs or drown their babies. At least the atomic bomb lessened the death toll from all of Japan to a number of Japanese. Japan was also getting desperate. They would've started kamikaze attacks on America, almost like 9/11. Like I said, it sounds horrible, the atomic bomb actually saved many lives. For all we know, depending on where the Japanese would have struck, you or I might not be alive today if we hadn't dropped the bomb.

It's sad that all of them had to die, but still.

Well, yeah, you justified it by a military standpoint, but not by my moral standpoint. We can't say what would have happened had we not, honestly. It could have ended badly or great. But there's almost no way that many Japanese would have committed suicide to the point of the death toll of the atomic bomb. Many weren't even really that loyal to the emperor, and many would have probably jsut not done it.

And of course one country can't work, because we keep starting so many firetrucking wars for the dumbest reasons.
