You needed to access it via Dark Portal. Riku wouldn't want Kairi to see him the way he was.

Because Riku was giving Sora clues to find Xemnas. and again if Riku were to take Sora to Kairi he would have to encounter Sora, which he didn't want to do. and Riku and DiZ wanted Sora to defeat Xemnas, so if Riku took Sora to Kairi, he would think Sora would stay there while Xemnas gets stronger

in days riku didnt go because he was looking out for sora bcuz of c.o.m.

in kh2 riku didnt go bcuz what coolwings said plus he was defending her by staying away,....Xemnas wanted Sora to use his keyblade to vanquish heartless so going to the islands would be just stupid,.....

I was hoping the series would forget about her until like KH3 when she;'s needed as a princess again. Oh well, a girl can dream.

Yeah, but if you think about it Kairi/Selphie didn't really didn't really care about Riku all that much given that one cutscene in KHII.

 

"You mean Riku?" "No some other guy I don't remember so he's totes more important."

Well, admittedly, it would be even more of a dick move to try and sidle up to the girl whom he attempted to steal the heart of, even more so when he had a very big part in trying to destroy the world.

 

At least not without buying her dinner first.

But the Nobodies had a tendency to show up on whatever world Sora happend to be on, and Destiny Island for whatever reason was ignored. Why would Riku risk suddenly giving the Org./Nobodies a reason to be there? And say Sora did show up, Kairi was pretty gung-ho about helping Sora in the 1st KH, wnat would stop her from doing that again? I don't think Riku would want to risk her being in danger. ....and doesn't Kairi noteven remember him? Wouldn't Sora be...a little bumbed out by that? Nothing like getting your fighting spirits up than having one of your close friends forget you!

Days was the bane of Riku's character imo. Though some things should be kept in mind.

 

(In no particular order)

-Riku was ashamed of what he did and didn't feel that he deserved to be in either Sora nor Kairi's presence. He did a lot of awful things in the first game, knows it, and feels that he has to be punished for it, punished by not facing them until he feels that he can be forgiven or even go as far as remove him self from the SRK trio altogether.

 

-He figured Kairi was better off without him, and at worst, blamed him for what happened. Riku was manipulated but nonetheless he was the one who sunk DI into darkness, got her heart ripped from her body and trapped in Sora, and tried to kill Sora also never realizing that her heart was within him.

 

-Riku never tried to hinder Sora from seeing Kairi, for all intensive purposes, Sora completing his mission of defeating Organization XIII was way more important than Sora making a house call to his not girlfriend and chilling out on the beach. He had time for that afterwards and if anything, Sora paying Kairi a visit with Org.XIII still lurking about may have been more hazardous to Kairi seeing as they were stalking Sora and apparently didn't consider her important until later.

 

-That last one also brings me to Sora himself not wanting to see Kairi until he found Riku. It was part of his promise that he would bring Riku back to Kairi and back home and felt that he couldn't go home until his obligation was complete.

 

-It's pretty apparent that Riku was keeping an eye on Kairi from afar (kind of creepy now that I think about it). He was the one who followed Axel to DI, bringing Pluto with him, and opened that CoD for them to escape. Then managed to track her down again in TWTNW.

 

-Kairi was fine and didn't need anyone to check on her regardless. DI was darkness free and not even the Organization considered Kairi important to there plans or anything until later because of Axel and by that time he had defected from the Org. and his planes for were much different from there's who used her on the fly.

Riku DID encounter Sora though

 

Until they go to the Castle That Never Was, Riku's encounters with Sora were either while Sora was sleeping, or with his hood up. Sora had no idea that it even was Riku so Riku didn't need to worry being ashamed.
