Given that this is primarily a gaming community, I feel the necessity to post this video isn't that great. However, I encourage all of you to share this video with your gaming friends and those who may be against Video Games because of the recent events in Newton.

In some cases there are crazy people that want to do what they see in a movie, in the news, from a game etc. But normally people dont get violence from video games as far as im concerned.

Personally, I think that games with violence above a certain degree can slightly push or influence a person, but I don't think that they alone are the deciding factor.

Crazy people are more likely to be copycats by doing their own RESEARCH and watching the stories on the NEWS rather than copy a fictional character. 

 

I love how no one argues that all those Criminal shows they have now, like CSI, Criminal Minds, Flash Point, Law & Order, etc., aren't the problem. I've learned more about mass murderers and copycasts and how to go about that stuff from those tv shows than from any video game

 

I'm not saying those shows are the problem, i'm saying it's the same argument, but no one is making it. They're inconsistent.

Exactly! My mom got me Resident Evil 2 and 3 for my 5th birthday! (Best Mom ever ikr) and I know I had other violent games but I cant think of them at the moment. And I never had a thought of violence ;P

Well you started playing violent games at an earlier age than me so that proves the games have nothing to do with it, it'a all in the mind of the person

I think you guys are missing the point of why the opposition is saying they're bad. They never said that they "cause people to do bad things", what they DID say is that is desensitizes them to violence and gore. And, by the way, I can prove that as a fact. When I started playing CoD, I winced every time I killed someone, and admittedly really didn't like the game at all, I was only playing it for my boyfriend. But then, the more I played it, the less I started to care about the characters I was killing. When I told my boyfriend, he said it had been the same for him. 

 

The motivation doesn't come from the games, but the desensitization does, even if you weren't originally upset by the game. It still subconciously gives you the message that, hey, all this blood and stuff doesn't bug me. So the shooter doesn't feel, as they shoot, sickened by what they're doing, or any remorse. The guy in Connecticut may have stopped soon after the rampage simply because he didn't like seeing the bloody bodies. (I can't remember where I read it, but it's a proven fact, that out of the 500 they polled by showing a picture of a fake bloody body, all but 2 said they would either panic or break down in tears to see it, let alone commit the act themselves. A good portion of those polled even cried.) Most mass murders have played violent video games. It's a factor that doesn't cause shootings, but certainly makes them worse.

I think his obsession with guns was more of the problem...

 

He was a monster for killing those innocent children and the amazing heroes who saved others instead of themselves and was too cowardly to face himself afterwards. I don't like Call of Duty but I doubt it was a major reason why he did this horrible thing. A lot of people are obsessed with Call of Duty and games like it. It might just have happened that this particular monster had an obsession with it, coz a lot of people do. Every boy in my school loves Call of Duty and a lot of girls do too. The video is right the killer shouldn't be given all that publicity, it should be the poor souls that died because of him.

I suppose that could be one view.  At least for me, I know the characters are not real people and I differentiate between them.  So I may seem rather soulless towards characters, but I know that I couldn't actually injure anyone seriously in real life, unless I'm in danger.  I cringe at even the description of an injury.

It shouldn't be nesassary to PLAY violent video games to be a good/non-violent person, though. Oh how I hate yahoo answers...

 

But, yeah, thinking it makes kids violent is....pretty dumb (i'm not much one for fictional violence myself but yeah).

Obviously. I mean come on, the Sims 3 is practically the most violent game ever, yet you see no one building walls around swimming pools to drown people or trapping people in walls and making them starve to death. Guilty as charged.

Hmm that's not true... I mean after playing CoD I react the way they move but actually making me want to kill somebody...that's to much. The thing that drives violence is hatred,revenge, and the fact that they can't control their emotions.

Well, first of all? The only good CoD game is the 1st Black Ops.

And, God's, I'd be so happy if these journals were attacking Activision in the right way. But in this war, none of the sides have any principles what so ever... And this is sad...

Saying Video games is the cause of violence is like saying this song influenced him to do it.
