(Some minor ground rules; respect other players, never simply give yourself an unfair advantage, mix things up if you wish, and given the nature of the secrets on the island, if you wish to have an enviornment described for you by me, simply end a post with your character looking upon an envionrment or opening a door and end with a "...")

So it begins.

I have gathered them here. They know nothing yet. That will change soon. I wonder how they will take to each other. Time will tell. Regardless, no more time can be wasted. The Experiment must now begin. Time to wake them up...

"Good morning. Welcome to the next part of your life."

The voice rang out in all of their ears. Earpieces, firmly attached in the ears of all of them. Inside came the unnerving and unnaturally changed voice on the other end. One by one, after hearing the voice, each of the subjects began to wake. Lying on the shore of a short beach was Yumi Yuki Ai, Ember Mors, Luce Angelo, Hazimie Azhar, and Rasiel Kasaragi. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Miles away lay an abandoned collection of bunkers and buildings. They surrounded an airstrip. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay several more people. Ren Cabret, Neisan, Kilek North, Tsuna Sasaki, and Sikota Urinakano. Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four other subjects; Robert Evans, Karu Kasaragi, Fulmen Aizen, Xander Steel, and Locke Stern. Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an imaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

On this island the Experiment is to be conducted. The island itself is only a few miles across, but its jungles, beaches, and bunkers hold long-kept secrets. These people now find themselves as part of a deadly game. They will have to get to know each other, and work together to discover what is sought from them, and in the process they must learn what they seek themselves.

The voice buzzed through their earpeices once more.

"Time to wake up. The Experiment has begun. You won't want to be asleep for this... Wake up and meet your new friends... and enemies. Wake up...

...the game has begun."

"I'm accustomed to sleeping in my armor. I don't mind the floor." Neisan carefully checked his wounds for teeth. "No teeth. Thank goodness. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to put in that tape." Neisan walked over to the table with the tape and black box. He picked up the box. "Say, there's no place for the tape to go in. Hmm."

As if in response, the box suddenly clicked. The upper part of it arched up a bit, showing a small opening just the size of the tape. The box looked pretty old, the tape as well.

"Well," Robert said, "Xi's gonna send us into one of his tests sooner or later anyway, so we might as well decide the time and place it happens." With that he stepped into one of the jeeps and strapped himself into the drivers seat.

"Anyone else coming?"

"Well, there we go! Now we can play this." Neisan popped the tape into the slot, set it down, and sat in a chair.

"Do you think that it will get us hurt...will it kill me and Keru? Will it kill Keru?" Rasiel asked, gripping onto Keru's sleeve.

"If Rasiel doesn't want to go, then I am not going." Keru said seriously.

Fulmen coughed, looking up to see the jeep. The vehicle itself seemed fine- Fulmen put most of the force back into himself to prevent any damage; which in turn caused him to be thrown backwards like a rag-doll.

"S-sorry....I still can't fully control my power.." Fulmen muttered, wiping the accumulated black soot off of his hands.

  • Author

The tape began playing a few moments after it was inserted into the playback machine. The quality was not very good, certainly not modern. Crackles and strange playback issues accompanied the male voice that now filled the room. The playback device was much more loud than it seemed.

"Well... David is dead. I don't... I don't know what to think. They said that we were going to help. That we were the ones that could turn the war. It's not like that. This island... I don't even know where it is, but they won't let up. David was the most powerful of us anyway, that all didn't need to happen. The guy could shatter earth in about any way he wanted to. What can I do? I can charge things up and make them explode. Well, that leaves 8 others in my squad, and god-knows who many besides that. I wish I knew how many people have these powers, I wonder if the Nazi's will have 'em too. Well, they told me we passed, everyone but David. They threw every goddamned thing at us at that airstrip.Planes, Panzers, jeeps, everything. They say we're ready. Shipping in out in 3 days. France, they said. If things go well, they plan to invade with the rest of the army. I'm not sure how we're supposed to win this war for them, the German's have got all of Europe. Maybe these powers do mean something, though. Maybe we're supposed to this. I don't know any more. This is my last tape. This is James R. Houston signing off. Rest in peace, David."

Then the only sound left in the room was the cycling of the tape reel. Within seconds it cut off as well.

Then silence filled the air.

"You've never heard of James R. Houston." Xi's voice was familiar in their ears by now. "He was like you all, he is the reason why the world is what it is today. Him, Quinton Yurick, Lawrence West, David Farrick, but you've never heard of any of them. "

It was strange. In the first few sentences, a glint of something shown in Xi's voice. It was minor, but it was something that had been non-existent before; emotion.

"They did what few could do. They followed fate. They made it. They made it, and you've never heard of them. Nobody ever said anything. They were better and they were used. On this island. There are so many things you do not know."

Xi paused, and when the voice returned, it was perfectly tranquil.

"There are so many things you will learn. Rest, you have come far. There is so much yet to come, though."

The double doors on the other side of the room clicked, unlocking. They were open for whenever the group decided to move forward.

----------------------------------

Across the room from Luce and Ember the door opened. Underneath the plaque of "Be Ready" sat a doorway to an open room. A figure seem to be standing within the door a ways.

Yumi nodded." Well,it would be good to go." She said.

"But..should we use the jeeps?" She asked.

"I mean the road dead head's up ahead." She said.

"Stand back, ma'am!" Luce drew long strands of neon green plasma seemingly out of the air. He instinctively slung them towards the dark figure.

"We may need them for the test" Xander said to Yumi

"I think we should take em"

"Well that was eerie." Sikota said, breaking the silence. "I say we go ahead and fix my wings, rest up, and move on. Who else agrees?"

Edited by Sikota Urinakano

Ren nodded in agreement with Sikota.  He gestured towards one of the chairs for Sikota to sit on while he worked on mending his wings.  "My mother was a herbalist, and used to treat those who were injured from battles," Ren explained.  "It wasn't often I helped, but I'd frequently be in the room reading while she worked.  I learned a thing or two from her, that's for sure."  Once Ren was done applying medication, he carefully placed patches along Sikota's wings; they were cool to the touch.

"There, how's that?" he asked gently.  He then glanced towards the others, noticing there seemed to be a dilemma with the beds.  Only two between five people...  That would prove to be interesting.  Kilek and Neisan already stole the floor, so it was up to them to decide who'd get the bed.  Ren drew a breath, looking between Sikota and Tsuna.  "You guys can have the beds, if you'd like.  I'll just"--he stopped short, not sure what he'd say--"Well, I'll do something."

"Aye." Neisan got himself some food. After eating for a short while, he spoke up. "I wonder if this war is still going on. Do you guys know? I've spent the past year or so holed up in my 'cave,' which is where I do all my tinkering."

"I can easily sleep standing." Sikota said, choosing to ignore anything having to with that video. He understood little of it anyway. "Thanks for the treatment by the way, Ren, you deserve a bed. I can see us being good friends." With that, he closed his eyes and began to rest.

(I can't decide if this guy'll just end up in bed Tsuna... He can be a gentleman for once... maybe...)

Neisan had stopped moving. It was obvious he had fallen asleep in his armor. A muffled snoring could be heard emanating from the helmet.

(Let's not rule out any possibilities, Sikota. Then again, it has to be PG-13.)

(OWO)

"Okay then i guess it's decided then." Tsuna said and went over and went to sit down on one of the beds. Well that was nice for them to take the floor, she thought, i guess it makes things less awkward- man this thing is soft. She lied back on the bed and looked at the ceiling. I need to keep my guard up for whatever Xi throws at us next. Tsuna's eyes slowly closed and she was out like a light.

Ren would've argued with Sikota, but, then again, he really didn't mind the idea of taking the bad.  He'd always grown up in a rich home, and only slept on the floor perhaps once in his nineteen years of life.  "Thanks, Sikota.  And"--he hesitated, as though trying to find the words--"you'd really call us friends?"  The first "friend" he ever had in his life; he couldn't help but smile at the thought.

He walked over to the side of the free bed and stretched out, not bothering to take off his boots or overcoat.  It was a wonder how Sikota would sleep standing, though he decided not to inquire on the matter.  It was his business; he knew better than to meddle in it.

The ceiling seemed to spin several times before Ren fell into a deep sleep, feeling relaxed for the first time in nearly twenty-four hours.

(And I'm seriously starting to wonder what Sikota's up to.  Poor, poor Tsuna... :P

Kilek didnt like thinking about that tape, or the things that Xi had just said. Kilek had been very tired, but the tape and Xi had made it had for him to fall asleep. His thoughts spinning in his head, he finally managed to fall asleep.

..........

Kilek's eyes opened sometime later, everyone was still sleeping, but Kilek counldnt sleep any longer. He listened to the nothingness, the sounds of his companions shifting in their sleep. With nothing else to do, he sat there, waiting for everyone.

- Well... I agree with Xander.

He was right. If Xi put a trial against us again and we need the vehicles... then we will be in big troubles.. inside my mind the questions still were running. Why we were here? for what purpose? Am I going to die here? ... the fear of dying.... I can´t die here.... then I looked back at Xander and Yumi... then I asked to her...

- Hey ... uh... Yumi, right? mmm ... how far are the ruins from here?

Ember created a bowstaff from air. "Who are you?" she called to the mysterious figure in the door. He looked awfully suspicious, and being behind a door with the label 'Be Ready' didn' bode well either.

Sikota, without a sound appeared before Kilek, his yellow eyes almost glowing in the darkness. He held a finger to his lips. "Sh" He struck here of Kilek's nerve centers, knocking him out. Still soundless he walked over to the fast asleep Tsuna. He lightly took her hand and undid the bandages, an ashen gray feather fell out. She was healed. Perfect. He carefully removed a healthy, chocolatey brown feather and set it beside her. His face leaned in closer. "I'm not going to let you take any risks from here. I'm going to clear the way for your escape." He gave her a light peck on the lips and exited through to the next room, the door closed behind him. Through the darkness, he saw...

Through the darkness, Sikota saw...

...that he was outside. The double doors opened into a clearing. Only a small bunker exterior sat above ground behind him. The air around him was cool. It was the early night.

"So you came alone?" Xi's voice through the earpeice was not concerned, but there was a hint of curiosity in it. "For her? Interesting. Be wary, Sikota, your effort of heroism will not be an easy one. Proceed if you think yourself able."

The clearing was surrounded by forest, but a single path was unmarked by trees. It led directly forward, where, in the distance, a blinking radio tower stood shining in the distance. A single platform sat further in the clearing. A huge thick fence went off straight in both left and right from the platform, it was incredibly high and seemingly electrified. Going to the platform was the only way forward.

"Step forth onto the platform when you're ready, Welcome to the test of dedication."

----------------------------------------------

When the dust kicked up from Luce's attack, the figure seemed to be standing in the same position as when the door opened. Suddenly part of it's arms seemed to shift slightly. With Ember's comment the figure's head came up and suddenly it slid, as if on a rail, to the right side, out of view. The only way to see where it was in the huge room inside... would be to go through the door.

Edited by MDSVeritas

Ember gestured silently to Luce. "Come on." she whispered. She gave her staff an experimental spin. Hopefully it would hurt if she banged someone over the head with it. Ember walked cautiously through the door...

With a flap of his wings, Sikota shed the bandages and flared his wings. Entirely brown and fully recovered they flared majestically. He stepped onto the platform. The thought that just had to come to him at that moment: he probably should have tried to find a shirt in that room.
