EA Voted "Worst Company in America" Once Again

Posted

For the second year running, EA has been named the ‘worst company in America’ after battling it out with rival Bank of America for the trophy. A whopping 78% of consumers voted EA to be crowned champions in a web-poll on The Consumerist, giving them a landslide victory. Unfortunately, this is not good news for EA’s chief operating officer Peter Moore, who announced in a recent blog post, that the company ‘could do better’. Do you think EA should have been given the crowning glory once again?

A shame they went downhill

Maybe they get again. They goes for the money, not the great games. The EA games has infinite bugs.

Kinda leaning with the bank with this one cuse they like to mess people over.

And they firetrucking deserve it.

the fact that people think that their worst company in the states is really sad. "companies who sell tainted food, predatory lend, harm the environment. But man, that video game company trumps 'em all!"

They really should've deemed EA the worst VIDEO GAME company in the states, not the worst overall company.

I have to agree on this.

It's a shame...(I like their logo.."Challenge everything"")

There's like millions of companies in America, why EA exactly? .-.

Maybe they get again. They goes for the money, not the great games. The EA games has infinite bugs.

They deserved that award.  Congratulations I guess :)

I'm not surprised. I used to love playing EA games when I was a kid too, but nothing of theirs interests me anymore :(

Best company for sport games by far though.

I can't tell you how many times I've posted this video around here, but I will do it again.

There are plenty of bad companies, but EA is just evil. The description of the video should explain it enough

-This is for buying out some of the best game companies and turning them to mediocrity.
-This is for having some of the worst customer service in the gaming industry.
-This is for deliberately holding back game content for the sole purpose of making customers pay more for it later as DLC.
-This is for strictly enforcing copyrights on content that you did not even create.
-This is for taking the Need for Speed franchise and completely ruining it.
-This is for supporting the S.O.P.A.
-This is for overworking some of your employees with no benefeits, demolishing any creative talent they have.
-This is for making terms of use that allow you to backstab your customers any time you see fit.
-This is for releasing the same things every year, an increasingly large number being the only difference.
-This is for forcing your customers to stay online to even play several games you publish at all.
-This is for backstabbing Valve, preventing the developers you publish for from releasing their games via Steam for the sole purpose of promoting your own platform.
-This is for overhyping your games and not delivering the content you promised.
-This is for increasing the funding of media review organizations to get better reviews of your games.
-This is for monopolizing the entire gaming industry and crushing all that oppose you.

Just read what EA CEO has to say about it

My reaction to reading it is that the only reason there's any users on origin is 'cause Sims 3 requires you to sign up to get content from the site >.>

"I want that ship, not excuses." - Darth Vader

If they can do better, then just freaking do it. It took them two years to realize that they need to try and get their act together?

All the COO did in that statement was basically this...

And yeah that was the COO, not the CEO, because EA is such a shit company they can't even get their top representative to say something.

You know what? I'm going to respond to the douche right here. He won't read it of course but I just want to point out this bullshit. I'm not going to share my thoughts on everything he said, just the stuff that really stood out to me.

This is the same poll that last year judged us as worse than companies responsible for the biggest oil spill in history, the mortgage crisis, and bank bailouts that cost millions of taxpayer dollars.

Note that all of those incidents were accidents. Yes, they were accidents that shouldn't have even happened in the first place and were very preventable, but they didn't intend to do it in the first place. EA intentionally screws people over to put it in layman's terms. They try to see which scheme can get them the most money and they keep pushing it until they get backlash. When they do they take a step back and try again later.

This year’s contest started in March with EA outpolling a company which organizers contend is conspiring to corner the world market on mid-priced beer, and (gulp) allegedly waters down its product.  That debate takes place in bars – our audience lives on the Internet.  So no surprise that we drew more votes there.

He is correct that there is some bias that takes place when conducting a survey on the internet. However, gamers make up the minority of people on the internet. Most active internet users are not gamers. We make up a massive amount of people that can certainly make an impact, but the poll being online shouldn't have much to do with it provided it wasn't based on a gaming website.

Let me cut to the chase: it appears EA is going to “win.”  Like the Yankees, Lakers and Manchester United, EA is one of those organizations that is defined by both a legacy of success, and a legion of critics (especially me regarding all three of those teams).

So much bigotry right here. If you're trying to restore your customer's faith in you, don't brag about "winning" and certainly don't brag about winning when you are losing horribly. More and more people, including myself, are starting to get turned off by games just because they have the EA logo on it. Some people hate but still buy, however people are starting to actually give up on anything with your logo on it.

  • Many continue to claim the Always-On function in SimCity is a DRM scheme.  It’s not.  People still want to argue about it.  We can’t be any clearer – it’s not. Period.

Prove it.

  • Some claim there’s no room for Origin as a competitor to Steam.  45 million registered users are proving that wrong.

That's because they have to firetrucking register in order to play your games in the first place. EA used to have an optional registration thing back in the mid 2000s. Nobody used it and this was before EA went to shit.

We are committed to fixing our mistakes.  Over the last three weeks, 900,000 SimCity players took us up on a free game offer for their troubles.  We owed them that.  We’re constantly listening to feedback from our players, through our Customer Experience group, Twitter, this blog, or other sites.  The feedback is vital, and impacts the decisions we make.

If you were constantly listening to customer feedback then you wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. Hating on EA started to get popular around 2009 and really got rolling around 2011, which was a year before the first time you were voted the worst company in America. If you listened to us, then I wouldn't be writing this.

I expect the debate will include a lot of comments under this post.   But here’s the truth: each year EA interacts with more than 350 million gamers; Origin is breaking records for revenue and users; The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Real Racing 3 are at the top of the mobile charts; Battlefield 3 and FIFA are stunning achievements with tens of millions of players; and SimCity is being enjoyed by millions of passionate fans all over the world.

EA has created an aggressive and ruthless hegemony over a significant portion of popular games. People buy those games for their developers  not for you EA. It's hard for gamers to stay away from you when you control such a huge section of the industry. But again, nobody buys the games you mentioned because of the EA logo on it.

Every day, millions of people across globe play and love our games – literally, hundreds of millions more than will vote in this contest.

If so many people absolutely adore you, then you wouldn't have been voted worst company in America.

So here’s my response to this poll: We can do better.  We will do better.  But I am damn proud of this company, the people around the globe who work at EA, the games we create and the people that play them.

Gotta love how he not once states how he plans on doing better.

The tallest trees catch the most wind.  At EA we remain proud and unbowed.

firetruck you

Best company for sport games by far though.

They don't have much competition that's why.

Best company for sport games by far though.

Only NHL and Fifa games. 2K Sports makes better NFL(2K5 still owns any Madden game till this day) and NBA games.
