Sometimes it feels like the Final Fantasy fandom is at war with itself. You have people who are classified as the following:

  • Those who think FFVII is the best
  • Those who think FFX is the best
  • Those who think XIII was the worst thing SE has shitted.
  • Those who think FFX was the last of the good FF games
  • Those who think that the younger generation of FF players don't know what a good FF game is because they haven't played the older games. I mean there are 35 (give or take) games in the whole firetrucking franchise.
  • Those who think FF is changing for the worse.
  • Those who think the SquareSoft to Square Enix merger thing destroyed the FF Series. (Wouldn't it had hurt the KH Series too?)
  • Those fans who think that they have a damn hierarchy system thing that they are better because they played the older games.

I have only played Crisis Core, FFXIII, FFXII-2, FFX, FFX-2. (I wanted to get XII but the guy at gamestop gave me X-2). I drop in every once in awhile to see if the new FF games are worth playing.

I don't understand why people insist on FFX was the last of the good FF. IMO FFXIII was better than FFX. *don'tshootme*

Moving on,I believe change is good and not everyone wants to play the same type game every time. If SE went back to the old FF, people would  possibly get tired and move on. I look at it as like they are modernising the franchise to flow with the times.

If your into older games you should play 6,7,8,9 They get the most hype

You seem very annoyed by people who prefer the older games.

In times were emulators helps you to play the older ones... you culd play these ones (1-9) too easy. Anyway according to myself... it´s from taste of the player. Also age is a factor. I played all the games to 1-9 around my 10-15 years.. so i can say these were good, story music and characters, balanced with graphics and gameplay. When i began to play X... I feeled something were missing in this game... then XI.. was only i can´t complain... XII... the story was a ... ??? but that was because the writer got sick and he leaved the game in development.. that´s why the ending is so.... well.. you know that. As for XIII that was the blast of changes.... As an old school player i can say these games aren´t bat but not as good as the old ones. However I can´t also say "My games are better and the new ones are sh**!" That´s not right... the fanboy war is just a senseless way to defend a game... VII was good but not the perfection of game, it has flaws, as well the other games... however changes are nessesary to evolve a franchise, considering the age of this (26 years).

Not annoyed, just concerned on why people think this way.

I have watched a walkthrough on 7. I would like play those, but my time is tight.

point 5 and 7 are really the same thing lol

and yes their is war in the ff fan base but oonly because of angry fans who cant accept opinions from other people. same as any fanbase

The fandom is at war pretty much with the VII fanboys who hate the XIII fanboys. Its stupid, but thats how it is.

Hooo boy.you realized this now???

It's been known that the FF fanbase is by far the worst fanbase in gaming history...or one of the worst

IT's even worse than the sonic fanbase

The bigger it is, the shittier it is because the more people are involved, the larger the number of people complaining about whatever.  And the FF fanbase is pretty damn big because the games are disconnected, so people have their pick about what they want to play.

You hit the nail on the head with just about everything.  It's uncommon if not rare to see people who like both the older and the younger FF games.  The only pre-VII FF games I liked were V and VI--the first three were damn near unplayable just from their difficulty (whether their original versions or their remakes), and in IV, I couldn't stand how I had to level grind party members I wouldn't even get to keep just so I wouldn't get gang raped.

There's also how everyone's got their own reasons for why FF[number] and FF[number] are the best and the worst in the series EVER.  People came into the series liking certain things about it, whether a gameplay mechanic or whatever, and whenever that's changed, it's not what they want to see anymore.  Thus, you got complainers about literally every FF game that exists.  Sometimes it strikes me as having narrow tastes in what you want to see in a game.  I like X's sphere grid system and V's job system and VI's esper system, all completely different mechanics that everyone will have their own opinions about.  Except VI's because anyone in the FF base knows better than to say anything remotely bad about VI.  And you thought VII was bad.

Speaking of VII... actually, no, I can't say anything about VII that hasn't already been said a gazillion times over, except it's safer for people to openly criticize the game now that its initial hype has died down after how many years.  Then the fans clash against the haters and the wars somehow represent the FF fanbase as a whole.  Don't get me started on the ways within the FFVII fandom alone.

I'll say this much: FF's fanbase is... interesting.

FF fanbase worst then the Sonic's fanbase? Are you sure about that?

Remember you're talking about those who complain about Sonic eyes being green,or those who think Sonic adventure and all the 3D titles suck because they are not exact 3D replica of Sonic 2.

"There's a difference between inovation and putting bacon in a milkshake"

One person's non-innovation is another person's awesome.  What one person likes about an FF--like, X's sphere grid--can be exactly what someone else hates about it.

Sorry I had to complete the Spoony reference.

Anyway,I said that acknowledging the absolute stupidity of the Sonic fanbase

But the FF fanbase has reached a new level where it's FORBIDDEN that you don't like FFVIII(I just can't like FF8) or you HAVE to make FF7 your favorite or else you're gonna be insulted and your family for liking a game that some people don't.I'm not talking about FFXIII because I hate XIII

I'm talking about spin-offs where somehow you're forbidden to like a spin-off more than a main title

The giant amount of VII haters, VIII haters, and VI lovers out there say hi.  There are more than you think.

All fanbases are terrible.

Then why the Gilgamesh I've seen VII fanboys 99% of the time???

The fans are just more vocal and concentrated.  Haters are dispersed.  Besides, people like Spoony made it okay to trash on VIII and the people who enjoy it.

Spoony has already said he was joking about trashing the people who like FFVIII.....watch his FFX commentary

Besides,VII fanboys also happened to be haters for anything that isn't FFVII and God forbid that you don't like Sephiroth

Oh, Spoony said he was joking--his fans just didn't get the message.

Dunno what fans you encountered but from the ones I encountered, FFVII to them was usually just "good" or "meh."  I actually don't see too many people who treat VII as their favorite because they're too busy putting FF[number] on its own pedestal instead.

You'll be surpised of the amount of people who treats FFVII as GOD-PERFECT game and that every RPG sucks in comparison to their divinely game FFVII

I'll say this much: FF's fanbase is... interesting.

From what i've seen, i like only VI, VII and its compilation, X, XIII and its sequels, and ill probably like XV and its sequels. I have yet to play FF I to V.

And from what i can see in the FF fanbase, the biggest clashes are between the people who love VII and completely hate XIII. VII fanboys and the XIII fanboys have clashed so many times now.
