Posted September 13, 201312 yr To any readers here, what is your personal definition of the word "emo"? My dictionaries are certainly not helping...
September 13, 201312 yr It's hard to say, it's more of a stereo type term than anything, long black hair, black clothing, types in music etc. It's just what you interpret it to be, I usually associate the word with the stereotype. But I hate stereotyping anyway so I don't think about it too much.
September 13, 201312 yr I'm in the same boat as you are, since people tend to throw that word around as a generic insult word. I normally mistake it with the term "Goth" so yeah, my understanding of that word is rather vague. Something involving skinny jeans, long hair and Hot Topic as far as I know... Just to throw it out there, he was asking for your "personal" definition, not to copy/paste something out of an online dictionary.
September 14, 201312 yr Do not ask this question. I lost close a friend over this exact thing. I used it referring to the mainstream definition and she went on and on about the original definition before just blocking me on facebook and hasn't spoken to me since. We were friends IRL before we were facebook friends so it really hurt. Edited September 14, 201312 yr by Isamu_Kuno
