Can anyone help me? (dream related)

Posted

I've been having loads of nightmares, each separated by a period of time.In my dreams, there usually isn't an enemy or usually there isn't a thing, most of the time its the absence of the thing. On multiple occasions, it starts with my GameBoy Color glitching up, usually it turning itself off and on, or something happens in-game thats not supposed to. And then, the music starts. There's always one thing that's in those nightmares, and its music. Music that sounds real, like its being played outside my dream. Usually its light piano with violin. People start saying strange things to me, like "They're in your walls, Caleb" "There is one next to you, Caleb" and I'm thrown, paralyzed, or attacked soon after by an invisible force, and then I wake up. Problem is, when I wake up, I can never fall back asleep, because I feel like I'm being touched every now and then. Can anyone help me learn to prevent these dreams, or is there an outside force bothering me?

So you've been conjuring up creepypastas in your dreams... wonderful.

You not being able to fall asleep after is likely due to just you spooking yourself. Kind of like when you see a spider and then you have sensation of crawling on you now and then... not too much to be concerned about there.

They might be night terrors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror).

Quote from the wikipedia article on Nightmares:

Nightmares can have physical causes such as sleeping in an uncomfortable or awkward position, having a fever, or psychological causes such as stress, anxiety, and ingestion of opioid drugs used in pain killers such as oxycodone and hydrocodone. Eating before going to sleep, which triggers an increase in the body's metabolism and brain activity, is a potential stimulus for nightmares.[2] Recurrent nightmares that can interfere with sleeping patterns and cause insomnia may require medical help.

Have you been taking any medications lately? That may be the cause. If you're particularly stressed or anxious, also a cause. And it could be caused by your hormones messing with your body chemistry, which is just something that occurs... I guess.

I don't know man. Dreams are hard to get a bead on.

The thing about nightmares and such is that they are always caused by whatever is going on in your mind.  Think about it clearly and list any reason that can possibly cause it.  Are you stressed by anything you've done recently or are you plagued by certain emotions?

Some things to consider doing:1. Make sure you aren't thinking about anything that could possibly disrupt your sleep before going to bed.

2. Drink milk, helps calm the mind.  Same with tea.

3. Know your mind and how it works.  Knowing is always half the battle.

Roxsox's reply is probably most accurate, but just in case it ends up not being night terrors: I think nightmares are just part of growing up. I have nightmares periodically, and for me, it's always about being somewhere and someone breaks out a gun and starts shooting. And it all feels very very real, so I understand how you feel. I brought it up to my doctor once, like yo is this because I shoot a lot or something? And according to her, teenagers tend to get a lot of nightmares. It has something to do with hormone level fluxes. She said sometimes they're recurring like mine, sometimes not. It's only abnormal if they happen for a week every night, at which point you should seek out a medical professional.

Well, this is prety much all information you need

But also, try to relax before going to bed. Like, no video games immediately before going to sleep, or any kind of activity that 'keeps you up'. Reading, or listening to a more soothing music is a good idea.

Dreams of something stalking you means you fear an outside evil.

Really sounds like you've been up on creepypasta.

This ^

Another cause might be that your mind is just super busy and can't calm down when you go to bed, so it keeps operating and cooking up nightmare material. You might try reading before going to bed, just so that your brain is occupied and has time to wind down. It also helps steer your thoughts away from the things that frighten you, which might help the mind from digging up the nightmare during sleep.

Sounds like your playing too many video games or you are watching too many movies or it could be stress related. When we are stressed strange things can happen to our bodies and you may also be getting lack of sleep and that can really mess with your mind and body. Sounds like something is troubling you in your life and you are afraid to confront it, but honestly, it sounds like you have an intense imagination and you aren't getting the proper rest and you sound pretty anxious too. Try taking breaks from games, movies, tv shows, etc. and get some naps in and also you might want to stay away from cola or high sugary food so you can rest properly. Hope you get better soon!

NIghtmares can be typically caused by external influences [dreaming that you're being smothered by someone when in actuality you accidentally pulled your blanket above your head] or caused by some mental trigger. If you're taking medications, then it's probably a side effect. If you think it's a physical disturbance, try your best to sleep in a comfortable manner. If you think it's a mental disturbance... hooo boy. You gotta find the recurring theme of theses nightmares first before you can even think about what the possibilities may be.

If you wanna, start thinking about your dreams. I [personally] find it fun and a wonderful way to better understand yourself.

Do you encounter a lot of stress recently? that's probably the reason you're having nightmares. It could be something you read...have u been reading a lot of creepy pasta like 24/7? either way If it gets worse seek for a psychiatrist
