March 9, 201411 yr Birth by Sleep, man. Not a single thing ended positively in that game. Every protagonist got the shortest end of the stick possible and the villain effectively won.
March 9, 201411 yr Looking back, I'm surprised at how what started out as such a simple and lighthearted romp in the first Kingdom Hearts ultimately grew into a genuinely tragic tale of loss and sacrifice. For that reason, I'm going to have to say Birth By Sleep, as it not only had the most depressing conclusion out of all of them, but also because the events that transpired within the game gave rise to so much more tragedy along the series' narrative. March 9, 201411 yr In gonna say... Kh 1. Sora finally defeats evil and all seems great! But then kairi leaves him and goes to god knows where... And then he sees riku in a good state, but he tells him he's gonna sacrifice himself to close the damn door.... And sora is again sapperated from his closest friends, he is freaking 14! The rest of the stories were doomed to fail... Not taking away that they were tragic!! I cried with every kh game ;$
March 9, 201411 yr Author I would say BBS too because when you see what happened to Ventus, Aqua, and Terra they are all sad. This is why one day Sora will help all of them with their hurt. To tell the truth, I crying at least once in every kingdom hearts game including re-coded. Edited March 9, 201411 yr by Shawn Shelby
March 9, 201411 yr What I mean by sad is being very emotional, but not completely sad. If this is what we're going by, 358 by a long shot. Xion 'died', but she HAD to 'die' so that Sora could save the day. In BBS, everybody just got screwed, yet it wasn't quite as emotional as Xion's 'death'. Edited March 9, 201411 yr by Kaweebo
March 9, 201411 yr Oh yes, I love these kinds of topics, there's always great discussions here! Anyways, in my opinion, every single one of the Kingdom Hearts games has a dark and tragic twist, something to tug at our heart strings, and while 358/2 Days is undeniably a tragic tale, my heart goes to Birth By Sleep as the game with the saddest story. I mean, it's sad to see that three friends who shared the same dream were torn apart by the machinations of a genius madman hell bent on seeing beyond what others saw. The emotional rift between Terra, Ventus and Aqua was gripping, and well, the thing I love most about this game's story is that all the characters have a tragic ending, something video games rarely accomplish these days. Most of the time it's the good guys that win and get all the praise, but hey, for every great hero there's a greater villain! And honestly, endings like these are surprising since they don't happen often, so I'm glad Birth By Sleep ended the way it did. I also really enjoyed the fan service the game had with it's nods to other Kingdom Hearts games. But anyways, what I'm trying to say is that Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep has my award as the saddest game in the series. Birth by Sleep, man. Not a single thing ended positively in that game. Every protagonist got the shortest end of the stick possible and the villain effectively won. Just like I was discussing above. I love good and happy endings, but I can't help but love tragic endings, it lends more emotion as you feel the characters reeling down into despair. Every Kingdom Hearts game has had it's tragedies, but I agree with you, Birth By Sleep wins on the saddest story front. 358/2 Days comes super close though.
March 9, 201411 yr I felt bad for the BBS crew except Aqua for some reason I bust out laughing when she fell into the RoD.
March 9, 201411 yr Author Kingdom Hearts ain't sad . It's got Disney in it ,why would it be sad ? Everytime you hear the word hurt in a kingdom hearts game what feeling do you feel?
March 9, 201411 yr Everytime you hear the word hurt in a kingdom hearts game what feeling do you feel? The feeling that my Life Bar got low .
March 9, 201411 yr Days was defenetly the saddest of the ones i've played so far Never got to playing bbs yet as i don't have a psp. Watched some early parts of the story online though (i don't remember it getting gennuinly 'sad' yet from what i saw but i think it has a good chance of getting a lot sadder probably)(from the genneral posts on this thread, i won't be suprised if i end up crying at the end of the story should i continue sometime ).
March 9, 201411 yr Author The feeling that my Life Bar got low . That is not what I mean. In kingdom hearts re coded the word hurt in mentioned throughout the game. At the end of the game, data namine tells data sora about all the people who are hurting. This was expanded in DDD.
March 10, 201411 yr lol just from reading the title of the thread before clicking to read I instantly thought Birth by Sleep and basically everyone else agrees too, it's just the fact that no one had a positive ending in that game at all but it made the game all the more fun because it wasn't the usual "happy" ending for everyone.
March 10, 201411 yr 358/2 Days is sad, with Xion 'dying', but if you think about it, she was simply going back to where she truly belonged. BBS on the other hand, all the protagonists drew the short straw, and none of them ended up well off, and that's what I liked about it. We were so used to seeing happy endings (358/2 Days being a kinda exception, but meh) in the first two games and then this game comes along. Reaching the end, you almost expect that they would defeat Xehanort and all would be happy, and then it wasn't, and that's why I think that BBS ultimately has a sadder story than the other games.
March 10, 201411 yr Birth by Sleep has the saddest story, Aqua, Terra, Ven & even Master Eraqus all got the short straw and while I kinda knew that something had to be up considering none of the characters were in the games before it, I couldn't help but feel really upset by that events of the game. Brilliant story and a great game though. It's definitely worth mentioning Xion's death in Days though. While nowhere near as sad in the HD collection (mainly because of how poorly the cinematics were handled in the story telling department in comparison to actually playing the game), the music that played during the scene was extremely powerful. It even made me tear up for a character I never liked in the game to begin with.
March 10, 201411 yr That is not what I mean. In kingdom hearts re coded the word hurt in mentioned throughout the game. At the end of the game, data namine tells data sora about all the people who are hurting. This was expanded in DDD. I was just kidding .
March 10, 201411 yr The first one, primarily because the idea of loss of innocence is conveyed the best. At the beginning of the game, it's made clear that these are three childhood friends who truly believe that they'll go on a great adventure together, only to have the adventure turn sour. And at the end of the game, all three heroes are faced with something worse than death: they are alone. They've lost something very dear to them, and it's going to be very hard to get it all back again. I think that's the true element of a sad ending. It's not just that something bad has happened, it's that the bad things have long lasting consequences.
March 11, 201411 yr Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. BBS isn't the only one with a negative ending! BBS isn't the only game with a trio falling apart into nothingness! 358/2 Days is sad, with Xion 'dying', but if you think about it, she was simply going back to where she truly belonged. BBS on the other hand, all the protagonists drew the short straw, and none of them ended up well off, and that's what I liked about it. We were so used to seeing happy endings (358/2 Days being a kinda exception, but meh) in the first two games and then this game comes along. Reaching the end, you almost expect that they would defeat Xehanort and all would be happy, and then it wasn't, and that's why I think that BBS ultimately has a sadder story than the other games. not to mention that it was pretty feelsy seeing Roxas all heartbroken since both of his friendship had fallen apart. That. Is. The. Worst.
May 31, 20205 yr Im sorry to say this but unless you've played 358/2 days and BBS you don't know true sadness. both are sad tales but my heart does and always belong to days because if you actually played the game on DS you get emotionally attached to Xion, Axel, and Roxas by spending so much time getting to know them but in the end Xion 'dies' in Roxas's Arms only then to have a final falling out with Axel and be KIDNAPED by Riku/Ansem only to fail at fulfilling Xion's final wish of setting kingdom hearts free. compared to tera being norted becoming terranort and ventus being set to sleep for just about forever while aquas in the world of darkness only to be ditched by mickey. so between both these heartbreakers bolth trios are separated but in Days people lose each other without the knowledge and xion is permanently cast out of the series roxas is KIDNAPED by some stranger (Riku) and axel is hated by everyone he "loved" while no one dies or is cast out in BBS but ventus is taking a very long cat nap terra was taken over and aqua to be stuck in the world of darkness with no way out because SOMEONE LOCKED THE DOOR ON HER (Sora) so i'm more lenient on days but unless you've PLAYED everything before KH3 you really dont have the rights to choose the best (I mean actually played the game not watched cutscenes) just like how a lot of people voted that terra had a sadder backstory which was just under roxas's and above xion's somehow even though most players haven't played Days because they either watch cutscenes or buy a ds and ds game. but now let's get down to business the saddest kingdom hearts is... EVERYTHING because its all intertwined with one another but in all seriousness if I had to pick it would be days.
This is opinion on what game you think has the saddest story.
