GameSpot Believes Nintendo Plans to Quietly Kill the Wii U

Posted

GameSpot writer Tom  Mc Shea has written a controversial article titled “Nintendo’s Plan To Quietly Kill Wii U”. Mc Shea believes that Nintendo is planning to quietly phase out the Wii U and concentrate their efforts on the mysterious Quality of Life platform. However, this goes against what Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said in the past. As he previously explained that the platform will be entirely separate from their gaming ventures. You can read the article, here.

“The Wii U is performing dismally at retail. It’s the depressing reality in which we live, and one that has caused us to think up ways to improve the console’s fate. What if Nintendo no longer bundled it with the expensive GamePad? Or partnered with outside studios willing to create exclusive games for the Wii U? Then maybe the system wouldn’t lag so far behind its competitors. Though such moves might help Nintendo in the short term, they would be mere Band-Aids on an open wound. The Wii U is in a dire situation. I believe Nintendo has reconciled itself to that fact, and has already planned a way to bail from this sinking ship.”

“Enter the “quality of life” (QOL) platform. No one knows what to make of Nintendo’s proposed QOL initiative, partly because we know almost nothing about it. Nintendo wants to improve people’s lives in some indeterminate way–using non-wearable technology–and is going to introduce this nebulous product some time next year. According to CEO Satoru Iwata, whatever the QOL platform is, it will be entirely separate from their gaming ventures. Iwata said, “When we use ‘health’ as a keyword, some may inevitably think about ‘Wii Fit.’ However, we are considering themes that we have not incorporated to games for our existing platforms.” But what if Nintendo has much grander plans for this mysterious device than they’re letting on? This could be Nintendo’s next big idea. An idea much more in-demand than their ill-advised tablet controller, and one that could propel the company to the same heights it enjoyed during the peak years of the Wii.”

Somebody's in for a rude awakening.

If they kill the wiiU doesn't that mean that zeldaU going to come on other system?

It'll never see it coming

ninja style!!!!!!

He lost it when he only quoted part of what Iwata said, but not on how the QOL stuff won't have any impact on their plans on the Wii U. Way to go contradicting yourself!

I don't blame them...

Gamespot is somewhat anti -Nintendo

I would not trust IGN either due to the fact they are Pro-Sony ,which  does not mean they are fanboys but they just shown time and time again that they have a biased for Sony . For example they almost always downplay Sony problems while constantly bring up Microsoft's and Nintendo's.

Yeah right that worked really well for Sega when they dropped the Saturn,Game Gear,Sega CD,Sega 32X and Sega Nomad to the point their previous president actually(this is real) donate it all of his wealth to save Sega from going bankrupt from all the losses that constant console dropping caused to them

Gamespot was always anti-Nintendo even during the Wii days

They are Pro-Microsoft actually. The PS4 is doing so well that if they attempted to truly bash it then they would look stupid.

Okay, these major game media outlets constantly bashing the Wii U's getting really annoying. Yes, its sales aren't as well as they could be. Yes, its library is fairly limited. However, looking at the upcoming releases, the Wii U's heading towards a complete 180. These types of articles are literally just pointless console bashing at this point.

It's the same when the 3DS was still in its infancy. Everyone loved bashing it. Now look, it's a fairly successful platform with so much going for it.

That's exactly what I usually think of. Everyone doomed the 3DS, and now it's incredibly successful. The Wii U's shaping up to be the same, now.

From what I seen they are Pro-Sony, They could easily make multiple articles about how bad Sony's other divisions are doing and how this could effect their gaming division

but they don't. And if it is bad news about Sony it would be like a sentence long and that's it ( downplaying). But if a Xbox One game is not 1080p 60 frames per second , IGN will make a big deal about it like all that really matters.

They are even worse with Nintendo now. Last year there was nothing but doom and gloom,  and Nintendo bashing articles.

I heard a theory that Nintendo might be making another system. I any of you heard of this?

The Nintendo Fusion? That was a lie created just to gather attention, it's not gonna happen. Nintendo's focusing on improving Wii U support so their current console's the best it can be.

They'll have to kill my Wii U themselves. And they'll have to stab it through my body in order to do so, I spent 300 dollars on this Space Odyssey monolith, and I have no intent of relinquishing it with ease.

That's a total fake rumor

Took the word outta my mouth

The Wii U is gonna kick ass once Smash 4,Mario Kart 8,Bayonetta 2,Xenoblade 2,SMT X FE....are released

I don't care if they kill the wii u because then we would have a console that doesn't have any dumbass gimmicks and better hardware capabilities than the other two current gen consoles(PS4 & Xbox One). My only regret would be me spending $300 on a console that is discontinued.

If they did kill the Wii U off (and I doubt they will any time soon) then they'd really upset many of their fanbase who spent their money on the machine.

It's obvious Gamespot are just fishing for page views. We get it, the Wii U is doing badly in sales, it still lacks Mario Kart and Smash, it has no games, it has no Metroid, wah wah, etc. I'm not sure what this QoL thing Nintendo are trying is or why they are doing it but I'm sure Iwata said it was nothing to do with games.

I'm kinda getting tired of the media bashing the Wii U because it's a great device that just needs the steady flow of games in the same manner that the 3DS saw when it turned around its struggling ways. IGN are the worst for it, they constantly highlight the sales of the Wii U and yet when the Vita is brought up in conversation it's this magical device with a ton of great games (which are 95% of the time are available on another console) and the sales are never highlighted.

People want Nintendo to fail and that's the sad truth. Personally I couldn't give a toss what this Gamespot fellow or anyone else says about the unfortunate mishaps of the Wii U and Nintendo because I'm enjoying the games I do have for it and I know what's to come in the future. I still think the problem is in the name and not the machine. The Gamepad is absolutely brilliant and the console is a vast improvement on the Wii but the name Wii U is what people aren't buying into and that's the reality.

Can we all agree to ignore any news outlet making these articles from now on? I swear, every damn day it's "Wii U is doomed.". We get the point. Now shut the hell up and wait to actually see what Nintendo does.

Sweating nails over what "analysts" say is absolutely pointless.

They aren't going to kill the Wii U. Do they have the money to survivue killing a console? Heck yes, ten billion in the bank. But they still wouldn't.

But Nintendo's big problems have existed since they decided not to use CD-ROM in the 64. Since then they've always had shit hardware when compared to the others and it caused the third-party developers to develop for PlayStation.
