Square Enix President Admits Company 'Lost its focus', Will Refocus on JRPGs

Featured Replies

Square Enix said that news on KH3 and FFXV may be told at this year's E3 or so if I read the info correctly.

I get the feeling that they still won't get back on track, but I guess it's a step in the right direction.

See certain dude ?

Even some of Square's staff knew that they lost their way

While I doubt that they'll reduce their mobile craze bonanza that soon,at least this is a first step into recovery and unlike Crapcom,Square still has a chance

Now I love Bravely Default even more for waking Square from their slumber even a little

Bravely does what Shitning can't

Lol I can't wait to see you-know-who watch this video and post his responce. this really shows that even Square-Enix knows that they have been making some pretty bad decisions lately. Hopefully, KH3 and FF XV will be the first step that Square takes to being right on track again.

In regards to "mobile craze bonanza" as Metal Snake put it, Yosuke Matsuda said in this interview that they will be strengthening it after March 2015.

Also, he didn't mention any JRPGS in particular. For all we know he was referring to the original FINAL FANTASY XIV, a Kingdom Hearts title or even a Dragon Quest title. Or one of those silly iOS games. Or even a mixture. Square Enix seem pretty happy with the FINAL FANTASY XIII trilogy despite the hate from a few thousand people who waste their time hating on it on Internet forums and comments sections. If they weren't they wouldn't have made two sequels, pick up awards and go around the world for interviews in Asia, Europe and North America. Now they aren't perfect, no games are imo. I'll happily admit these games had their flaws, but I still liked them a lot. If you want to discuss the XIII series and it's games with someone who enjoys them but will happily discuss their flaws, talk to our partner, Everglow.

It's important to note that he discuses Hitman in particular more than JRPGs in this interview. He mentions how they tried to make it appeal more to other gamers rather than focus on the core gamers. He's clearly concerned about the Hitman franchise in particular.

We're are about to enter a new era in the FINAL FANTASY series anyway, so of course things are going to change. You can't expect another VI, VII, X or whatever your favorite game is. You've got to hope that put out a game that you enjoy, and if you don't enjoy it? Oh well, you can still enjoy other games. You shouldn't let one game, or a sequel, or a trilogy or an entire era affect you personally. Honestly, whenever I dislike a game I just move on and don't concern myself with that game again. I unfortunately couldn't like Ocarina of Time 3D which is a shame since it's such a legendary video game but oh well, I move on and play other games. You should focus on things you enjoy rather than things you don't. Don't waste your time hating on something when you could use that time on something you love.

In conclusion I'm excited for the new era of FINAL FANTASY. Excited for FINAL FANTASY XV. Excited for the possible 3D remakes of FINAL FANTASY V and FINAL FANTASY VI. Excited for the likely a HD remaster of FINAL FANTASY XII, which was sadly likely the last major game from the legendary director, Ito. And excited for other likely titles like FINAL FANTASY X-3 and FINAL FANTASY XVI.

A hate from few thousands people??

the XIII trilogy is hated by MILLIONS!!!Hence why XIII-2's sales were half less than the first game and third game selling even half less of the second game.

if those who hated the game were few thousands on the internet the sequels would've sold as much as the first one if not more

The goal is to make the consumer happy,if the consumer isn't happy what's the point of them getting happy when the people they're supposed to make happy aren't happy about their products

And the two sequels is because they spent too much money on the project to let it die early just like most of the industry nowadays where they make an entire franchise out of one game in a series.

and I know just like your usual self you're gonna bring Nintendo into this discussion even though they have nothing to do with it so I won't look at the numbers you'll copy and paste from vgchartz

Millions? So you went around asked everyone who purchased the games if they liked them? Lol.

You can't honestly know why everyone who purchased XIII didn't purchase XIII-2. Ever thought, maybe they couldn't afford it?

I see plenty of consumers happy. Can't make everyone happy, but they've made enough happy.

And bring in Nintendo? I've got no reason too.

Have you asked everyone who purchased the game and how do you know that only few thousands hate them

You can't honestly know that only few thousands hated it when you're only stuck in KH13 and ign instead of checking other opinions around the internet

I saw tons of consumers disappointed, sure they made some happy but they alienated a lot

And looks like you forgot our last discussion where you brought the Wii for no reason

I didn't say a few thousands. I said thousands.

I read websites other than KH13 and IGN. All the time.

I saw tons happy.

I'm not even going to discuss that here. There's a topic for that and I already explained there simply to compare that Square Enix games are more profitable on smartphones and tablets rather than Nintendo home consoles since you kept going on about how shit you think it is.

Lol so you're just mentioning Nintendo because of my opinion on mobile gaming just to try to piss me of? really?

Anyway,I know Shana is here somewhere ready to enact the ban hammer on my ass so I'll stop here

if you think that Square Enix is Jesus reincarnated in the form of a company,I won't stop you

Nope, I was comparing to another market.

I don't, honestly. I can point out games they make that I don't like, and things I want them to do but won't.
