Yosuke Matsuda, President of Square Enix, has officially announced that there IS a sequel after Final Fantasy X-2.
"When we did the audio drama, Final Fantasy 2.5, we wanted to say, test the waters, and see the audience's reaction. Fortunately, the reaction is excellent, and seeing the fans wanting another sequel to Final Fantasy X series, we decided to announce Final Fantasy X-3."
Matsuda also states, "Toriyama Motomu will be directing the game. I was intent on firing him after seeing the poor results of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, but he asked for a second chance, and I decided to let him develop this game, but I will watch his movements and ideas very carefully to make sure he doesn't destroy Square Enix's name."
Tetsuya Nomura is also confirmed to be working on character design, and co-directing Final Fantasy X-3. Matsuda will be making sure Nomura has an equal amount of time with the announced game and the two anticipated games, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III.
"This will be the last Final Fantasy X game for the series. It will come out on Playstation 4 with a tentative year of 2016. So please wait, for more information is to come soon."
