How the hell did this franchise become so closed minded

Posted

EDIT: meant to say fanbase in the title.

Something I've been noticing around the KH3 forum for a while is just how closed minded this fanbase has become, but it hasn't really baffled me till i saw a thread about maybe KH characters in Disney Infinity. With all the stuff I'm seeing i just have to wonder, how the hell did this fanbase become so closed minded?

The biggest instance of this has obviously been with suggestions of other Disney owned properties to be included in KH3, more specifically Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. All the time i just see people going "It doesn't fit with Kingdom Hearts!" or "KH should stay pure disney!" and stuff generally along those lines. While everyone's entitled to their opinions the basis for this is just stupid.

We're talking about a franchise that started off as a crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy, Final freaking Fantasy! put that on paper along with the other properties and say KH never existed and disneys thinking of a crossover to do, FF would be on the bottom of that list in terms of what we think would be successful. Next to nothing doesn't fit with KH. It's not even like these are franchises that are too mature to be adapted into the games, besides FF we have The World Ends With You, a game where you play as a kid who got shot and killed. Marvels done kid friendly before, look at Lego marvel, a competent game with a somewhat complex fun child friendly story. Star wars by nature is kid friendly, in fact the only concern i would have is that star wars takes place across the galaxy, and the world we see in KH is fragments of a planet and I'm not sure if they could make the universes physically mesh together well.

In regards to the "keep it pure Disney" argument I've seen several times....you could not have a weaker argument to not include stuff like Pixar and the others. Just because something is a Disney movie, doesn't make it good, look at lone ranger, look at Mars needs mom's. being Disney=/=good, and having other stuff wouldn't make it any less of KH than it already is.

now a quick comment about the Disney Infinity stuff. For those who haven't seen it. the argument that astounds me is basically "I don't want 10 year olds joining this franchise".........It's just....what the....how can anyone have that kind of thought? This is a franchise designed to appeal to children, it's rated E10, sometimes less, I'm sure many of us here joined the franchise at that age, maybe younger. I just.....you know what I mean.

I just have to wonder how this of all fan bases can be so closed minded.

I would actually like to see a variety of worlds in KH3, take the Pirates world for example; I felt it fit (I also found it hilarious Sora wanted to become a pirate).

Personally, I don't mind Pixar being in KH3, just because Pixar was bought by Disney when it was just starting, so in a sense, Pixar belongs with Disney. I don't agree with Star Wars at all. I'm sorry, it just doesn't work with a game like this. Marvel I feel they could make it work and it would be really fun to fight along side Iron Man or the Hulk. Marvel worlds would be easier to incorporate, and it would probably make more sense. My thing against Star Wars it that it is an old franchise, and I'm not saying that makes it bad, but the theme of Star Wars would clash too much with the atmosphere of KH. Again, just my opinion but I feel like there are still other Disney Worlds that could be incorporated, simply because Disney keeps making movies. Like I would love to See a Sugar Rush, Frozen, and Tangled world.

As long as I have KH3 in my hands, i dont care what they add, except lightning, and maaaaybe Darth Vader

Two things :

1: Nomura said in an interview he wanted  to make KH more attractive for all ages to enjoy, not just kids . It might've initially started out that way but as the plot progressed they wanted a wider appeal .

2.- To this very day a lot of people complain that they felt that Port Royal seemed strange and outta place and didn't like it . ( I liked it but not all people did ). Because of this they tend to be leery about this subject . Just because a movie is good /popular doesn't guarantee it a spot in KH3. It has to fit well too. Just sayin

3- I'm open to newer movies if they are done right.

^^^^^ this too

I would've liked port royal if they didn't take out all of the gritty cool pirate stuff that made the movie great. Not to mention out of a full great soundtrack they chose one song and butchered it.

I don't want Star Wars anytime soon. Mostly because I feel it would be best done with a multiple world world, and that just wouldn't feel right. (also I don't want Sora to try/succeed to use the force)

The plot of Lilo and Stich is much more contained and you get the sense that there are probably rules against exploring certain worlds and such.

As for Marvel, I think if "New York City" became a playable world, the question would occur why don't a few heroes go and help Sora on his journey? (because at least in the comic verse New York City has the densest population of heroes)

They could quickly rectify this by making them comicbooks like the book of pooh. And if done well, they wouldn't be that out of place. Though if done poorly it would be annoying.

Agreed. It just wasn't implemented well so it wasn't that well received for a large part of the fanbase .( and for good reason )

Am I the only one that seems like a "The City" world (New York) would be awesome. I can see it now, Sora talking about a keyhole and heartless and asking random New Yorkers a bunch of odd questions, they would think he's crazy lol. Somehow he finds out about a superhero named Spider-Man who saves and does the city good and Sora wants to meet him but Sora has nowhere to go so he talks with someone and they say "you need a job to get around this town, kid" and then Sora gets a job at the newspaper place and then meets Spider-Man and yada yada. This storyline would be great, in MY opinion. At least, I'M not closed minded ;)
