Final Fantasy 15's Yebis 2 engine was “Only” Used in E3 Trailer not in the game itself, Further Usage Uncertain

Posted

A while ago, we covered how Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 15 would be using Silicon Studio’s Yebis 2 engine. This was based off a listing that appeared on the middleware developer’s site which listed FF15 and having been used for the E3 2013 trailer. According to Silicon Studio on the page, “Beautiful natural light is represented as real-time computer generated effects by utilizing the optical effects of Yebis 2.”

However, when speaking to Masaki Kawase, an architect for Silicon Studio, about how Yebis 2 was used in Final Fantasy 15, he stated that, “You must have made a mistake. There was no announcement that Yebis will be used for FF15. Yebis was however used in the Final Fantasy 15 E3 2013 Trailer from Square Enix. There is nothing more we can say for now :),” he said to GamingBolt.

Take that for what you will – in fact, it could signify that though Yebis 2 isn’t being used for Final Fantasy 15, it might currently be implemented into another project Square Enix has going on. We’ll find out more in the coming months so stay tuned.

So what does that mean?Basically it means what we saw in the E3 2013 trailer wasn't from the game's actual final engine,it was just a couple of shots merged together for the sake of creating the trailer, meaning that most of the stuff we saw in the trailer might not make it to the actual game(think of it like the E3 2006 trailer of Final Fantasy XIII where most of the stuff in that trailer didn't make it to the final game) or if you want a more recent example, think of it like what happened with Watchdogs in the E3 2012 trailer and how the actual game turned out and looked like

Bottomline:This game's development is an absolute disaster, for firetruck's sake if after all those 8 years they only managed to only use the engine for the trailer that showcase nothing of how the actual game would play if it was demoed, then why should I have faith in the game's actual quality if they're not ready at all to show us the game itself but rather fake bullshit CGpre-rendered footage that's most likely won't be in the final game?

No thanks Square Enix,I'm just gonna wait for Xenoblade Chronicles X

Wow. To be honest I am really looking forward to this game. I think it will be better than KH3 after all though and them saying that was CG? Really? You have a ridiculous amount of time develop the game which why the game is not out by now is absolutely inexcusable. And then you use CG in the E3 trailer? Really? Sometimes I really do hate Square Enix. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the game does not come out til 2016.

This doesn't really concern me. I don't care when it comes out, I just want to play this game and KH3, and I'll just take my time waiting. It doesn't matter if a specific engine is used or not, Square Enix just needs some time to finish the game.

So, basically...

'What? Oh, we only used that graphically superior engine because it LOOKED cool! We're not actually going to let you play in it! No, no, no, no, no, you misheard us.'

Great.

GREAT. I love how developers decide to make their initial trailers look so friggin' cool and then strip it all away immediately after. It's like, why even show us the engine in the first place? Especially when you're just going to tell us later on that we're not going to be able to see it in-game. Watch_Dogs did that and it still pisses me off, but at least in that game's case, PC players have developed a mod to restore the graphics.

EIGHT GODDAMN YEARS WASN'T ENOUGH FOR THEM? EIGHT GODDAMN YEARS???

A game taking a decade to make is ludicrous and most of the time the results are not good and only indicates and problematic disasterous development cycle heck they've said before that they might outsource the game to an outside developer to help them.

I mean holy shit we got the entire Mass Effect trilogy, two main timeline console Zelda games(Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword),three generations of Pokemon games or should I say AN ENTIRE GENERATION OF CONSOLES (Ps3,Xbox 360 and Wii) FINISHED AND WE STILL DON'T HAVE THE GAME THAT WAS ANNOUNCED IN 2006??

How is that acceptable in any way, shape or form? We've been fed lies from the beginning, all the trailers we saw for XV ever since it was named Versus XIII were fake pre rendered bullshit from outside engines that were not even used to develop the game

I don't care if Square is making the almighty angelic game of KH3(which won't come out until XV is done),Square Enix has royally and totally f***ed up

I doubt that the final would be even as big as even the original Xenoblade or it's Sequel Xenoblade X in terms of JRPGs

I'm sick and tired of fake, stupid, bullshit CGIpre rendered trailers that shows nothing of the final game(which was most of this year's E3 btw) and Square Enix is the most guilty of this among other Japanese companies.

8 years in development and still no tangent, demoed or existing gameplay that could be tried by neither the press nor the general audience.

How people find this scam acceptable is beyond me

THIS

Square Enix is focusing on XIV as the new FF right now which is fair enough considering it did them a world of good. However the KH team needs to pick it up, eight years is a joke.

This does not suprise me. Even seeing that trailer, I doubted the final product would look like that. Just another reason why I have 0 hype for XV. (Not that I had any in the first place)

Literally posted this for a reason to hate. xD

I have no care in when any of this is shown, but Square should have kept their mouths shut here.  Lol, how stupid can you be at a time like this?

Now watch when the game does finally come out you guys will buy it and say it's the best game ever. I'm calling it now!

Yeah of course we'll buy it we've been waiting eight freakin years for this but that doesn't mean we should find this acceptable

Sure you,I and many people here will buy it,but what about the general audience? Many of them at this point might've stopped giving a shit about the game even before the name change from Versus XIII to XV.

And finally,if the game turned out to be awful many will be either selling their game or just rent it instead of buying it which is gonna hurt Square Enix a lot

Yeah we might buy the game but whether we're gonna call it best game ever or a shitty game depends on how the final product will turn it

Not really suprising. Nothing is certain when it comes to FFXV.

Actually, cosidering it's situation I doubt i'll buy it.

I'll buy it when it comes out but it better be soon in getting very discouraged right now.

It's just a lighting engine. You're overreacting again. It's still using DirectX 11 for the graphics engine, and using the same gameplay. Is pre-rendered lighting all it takes for you to snap? More importantly, do you really think a lot of people will skip out on the game because a trailer used pre-rendered lighting?

It's not about the lighting, they literally said the engine that was used is not the game's actual engine so what we get in the end product might not be in the same quality as the E3 2013 trailer.

It's just the fact that after all those years they still don't have a demo built for people to try......I really don't know how people can defend Square at this point

They didn't even say Yebis 2 wasn't being used. They said "it hasn't been announced." It could still be being used. Everyone is using this as an excuse to complain about the development time. I find it a little silly. If you take the time to really READ the article, you see it's not something to flip out over.

Believer me, I'm just as frustrated as you and everyone else is. But, come on now. Let's not attack Square over trivial things such as this.
