So at the end of Dream Drop Distance Xehanort was attempting to turn sora into a darkness, only to fail as I'm sure almost everyone here knows. The question is though, if Sora became a darkness then who would've been the other light that replaced him, and since Xehanort failed who will take Sora's place as a darkness, or will Xehanort try again?

I'm pretty sure that riku, sora and mickey are already confirmed to be lights, but regardless I couldn't see sora not being a light.

Being one of the lights isn't anything special like a keyblade master. It just means he'll be confronting Xehanorts in a battle meant to create the x-blade

I also don't think Sora will be one of the lights. It's too predictable, and Kingdom Hearts is anything but, for the most part. IF Sora was a darkness, I wouldn't mind, but only for him to be a boss fight. I really want to fight against Sora and I want it to be a really tough fight.

Yeah, it's not really specified who will all be the lights and darknesses. It could literally be anyone on either side. The darknesses we saw in DDD could very well be changed. Who knows?

No matter who got who, Pence would've been willing to fill either role- he's an objective party after all

I always find it weird how people think it's the guardians of light who have to clash with the darknesses to make the X-blade when in fact its the seven lights (the Princesses of Heart) that are needed to make the X-blade. basically this war that they are going to fight is to protect the princesses and if the guardians fail well then Xehanort will get what he wants and that's the X-blade. The guardians are just to protect the princesses and there can be many of them as I'm sure Xehanort will have more then just the 13 darknesses they will also have the Heartless and the Nobodies fighting as well.  But anyway if Sora did become a Darkness then maybe it would be Lea who would take his place I don't know or the whole first part of Kingdom Hearts 3 will be to get Sora back that would take like at the most an hour and then you play as Sora the rest of the game.  Now as to whose going to take the spot that Sora was going to be as a Darkness who knows we don't even know the rest of the Darknesses Xehanort could corrupt one of the revived Nobodies that we saw in DDD and who knows he probably would've done it anyway with or without Sora. The guardians of light I think aren't really that special they are just glorified bodyguards for the princesses of heart nothing more because like I said I'm sure for the big final battle at the keyblade graveyard or where ever they have it they won't just have seven people go up there to fight 13 plus more. But I always say this we just have to wait until the game comes out to know for sure how things will play out.

I think you might be right about that. Before the Xemnas battle Sora says "I know the Keyblade didn't choose me, but I'm happy to be part of something bigger- the people it did choose!" So I honestly think that he could be excluded from the Guardians of Light. He kinda seems like a last-minute hero who just happened to be at the right place, at the right time.

When master Xehanort failed to turn Sora into his side, he didn't really get worried as if it didn't concern him. So it is either what happened was under his plans or he had plan B before trying to make Sora in his side. In both ways, master Xehanort seems to be having different plans that we would never easily expect.

Well, as far as im concerned the secret ending of DDD revealed that the Seven Princesses of Heart were the seven ligths. It was supposed to be a shocking revelation that you had to unlock, just like Kairi starting her Keyblade training.

 

Sora, Riku and co., are called the Seven guardians of ligth to protect each one of the princesess, not to be the ligths themeselves. 

But who knows, at the end they could be some kind of replacement.

My theory is this. Based off of how the X-blade was forged the last time. Ventus and Vanitas merged into one being. I'm assuming the same will happen when it is created again. This time with the 7 lights and 13 darknesses. Leaving only Sora to fight an all powered up Xehanort. I feel like Nomura has been putting a lot of emphasis on Sora being just a normal kid for a reason.

If it's not Sora then the Seven may end up being: Riku, Kairi, Aqua, Ventus, Lea, Mickey... and Xion (so that it'll be 3 girls and 4 boys instead of a 2 to 5 ratio). Actually it will be a big surprise for a lot of us if Xion ended up being the seventh as most probably expect Roxas to take that spot if Sora doesn't.

You know I think maybe the showed the 7 lights in the opening of DDD with Sora, Riku, Mickey, Terra, Aqua, Ven, and Roxas, I don't know what other reason would they have them appear in the opening at the point
