Now people, before you turn this speculation down by judging from the title, please for the love of Kingdom Hearts III, hear me out.

 

I have here some textual evidence that Yen Sid could indeed be the former master of Eraqus and Xehanort.

 

Skip to about 2:05.

 

 

"I had hoped, Xehanort, your heart would no longer lead you astray." The way he said that statement, doesn't it seem a little too personal to you people? It's as if he is speaking on a personal level about Xehanort. It's exactly the kind of words an old master would say about his former corrupted pupil for dramatic purposes, is it not? Expanding on that, he says he's not a master anymore, which further points to this likely possibility. I had denied this at first, but after watch Everglow's playthrough of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix and seeing this cutscene, it forced me to change my way of thinking.

 

So what do you people think about this? Is it logical? Or am I just reading into it too much?

 

EDIT: Okay, so I've been listening to certain people and now I think it would make more sense if they were all training together. Eraqus did refer to Yen Sid as an "old friend" so that supports this claim, plus the previous one I had. Just replace "master" with "friend" and you have a theory that makes a LOT more sense.

That's the problem, I can't find it. Though I'm sure it's true. After all Xehanort is pretty old to have been the apprentice of Yen Sid. They seem the same age. Maybe Xehanort is even older since in BBS his body was failing him, otherwise he wouldn't seek a new vessel.

These speculations and confirmations actually make more sense now that I think about it. If I can find that interview, I'll let you know. Is it old?

I think Eraqus calls Yen Sid in the beginning "an old friend" ... So, yeah, they're friends. I don't think all three studied under the same master, but it's possible.

I have always found that to be quite weird. Maybe she will be a descendant of the Foretelllers, from KHChi, or something Nomura crazy like that? But now, I wonder if she is alive, or if she died between the flashback and the current moment in KH.

Well I doubt she is still alive at this point since Kairi never mentioned her, but then again teenagers never want to visit their grandparents.

I see what everyone is saying. Kairi's Granny studying with Yen Sid? I swear if Nomura pulls a plot twist like that... But I am curious as to how she has such knowledge of the Keyblade War. Maybe it's an old people thing?

I've often wondered this myself....I think it's certainly possible that he could have been, or perhaps he was just someone who assisted with teaching. But then again, what if him, Master Eraqus, and Xehanort were all just friends at some point? There's a lot of trios in this game, except in this case, instead of being two boys and a girl, it's two old guys and a wizard.

BBS. It's not in a cutscene. It one of those dialog box things. When you go talk to him as terra I believe. So it's hard to find a video of it.
