Sony announced at Gamescom earlier this month that the PlayStation 4 has sold 10 million units since its release last November. The console has taken an early lead in the 8th generation home console race.

 

31 pecent of PlayStation 4 owners did not own a PlayStation 3 last generation, but instead an Xbox 360 or Wii. Also 17 percent did not own any of the last generation consoles. This is according a Neilsen study being reported by Re/code.

 

The survey took place in America between February and April. Neilsen surveyed 1,200 "active gamers" age seven to 54.

Not surprising since Sony ( unlike Microsoft and Nintendo) didn't screw up early on this gen, The PlayStation 4 is the most successful out of three so of course Sony would have attracted more fans ,some from Microsoft and Nintendo's camp .

 

This same thing happen before with the Wii and the Xbox 360 which took many former PS2 users because Sony messed up in the beginning of the 7th gen with the PS3.

I would say a big part of this is because there are still great games coming out for PS3 and a huge library of games from the last few years. All the new Tales games, KH, and a few other series are definitely keeping PS3 owners happy and we don't need a new console yet.

In fact, Sony's actually worried about their consumer base, considering the majority of the PS4 owners never even had a console from the previous generation though this states 17%.

I have both and I still play on my PS3 a lot, mostly because I still have only 1 game for the PS4
