Yeah, you only need the NNID for Wii U. Go on Miiverse, find the user, and there's an option to directly send them a friend request. Too bad the 3DS still uses more complicated methods.

 

 

Also, if anyone adds my 3DS FC (Already posted it here), please let me know so I can add you back. I may or may not add my NNID for the Wii U version soon, although that's more of something I give to good friends.
