Assuming there will be a combination of different playable characters and improved, longer battle cutscenes in Kingdom Hearts 3 (or at least both of those will be appreciated) there's one topic i haven't seen addressed yet - match ups. 

 

This is the finale of Xehanort saga yet there are plenty of battles that should've happened, would be interesting to see or rematches. I'm sure we all have our different lists of fights that need to happen, here's mine! Feel free to leave feedback and your own lists below.

 

(In no specific order)

 

1. Sora vs Vanitas

 

I'm basing this solely off the fact Vanitas is just an emo color swap of Sora, I'll be honest. But just imagining the intensity of each of them gazing into their eyes while swinging blades is exciting to me.

 

2. King Mickey vs Ansem SoD

 

Mickey has helped Riku clash with Ansem SoD many times, but the master himself has never gone solo toe to toe with anyone in the series yet, why not go head to head with the first non-Disney antagonist we met in the series?

 

3. Lea vs Isa/Saix

 

This has had so much buildup due to their past and their brief clash in DDD. Not only can we get more exposure and development to their characters even more, but this battle between old friends can serve for an emotionally powerful scene.

 

4. Marluxia's Somebody vs Xemnas

 

I'm positive the somebodies for the rest of the Organization will be in KH3 and we didn't get a clear answer to why Marluxia wanted to overthrow the Organizaiton besides "for power." but it can easily be expanded upon/revise for a good purpose of power or if Marluxia was aware of Xemnas' true intentions. Marluxia's Somebody can have a beef with Xemnas in KH3, even if it's just simply because Marluxia's still pissed Xemnas had Axel out to get them in CO. Plus it'd be cool seeing the main antagonist of CoM clash with KH2's main antagonist.

 

5. Kairi vs Anyone

 

We all think it, we all know it, she's not useless anymore, KAIRI DO SOMETHING!!

 

6. Roxas vs Xemnas

 

This was slightly built up in Days and I guess it could be considered "fulfilled" in KH2 through Sora, but Roxas is still his own person (or will be by the end of KH3) 

 

7. Maleficent vs Master Xehanort

 

Maleficent is not one to be trifled with, yet Xehanort screwed her over in KH1 through his Heartless. Whatever her role is in KH3, I hope she tries to get some at MX along with everyone else.

 

8. Terra/Lingering Will vs Master Xehanort

 

Does this one really need elaborating? Lingering Will is more than likely still in Keyblade Graveyard and when MX returns there, all hell should break lose. As for Terra himself, this will probably occur in a Dive to the Heart sequence like Sora vs Roxas.

You already said most of the good ones, i will add:

 

Riku vs Ansem SoD

Ventus vs Xigbar

Master Aqua vs Master Xehanort

Sora, Kairi, Riku vs Xehanort Final Form

 

I expect some betrayal. So a fight between Xehanorts should be funny: Young Xehanort/Braig vs Master Xehanort.

Vanitas vs A Pillow. Given that its that final game, I feel he needs to fight an enemy that can truly test his skills.

Sora Vs MX.

Maybe it won't happen, but I would be amused to see Roxas and Ven pull a switcheroo on Vanitas. Vanitas wants to join with Ventus, but Roxas tricks him to keep Ven from suffering the same fate as before. Highly unlikely, but hey, it'd be amusing to see Vanitas' face when 'Ven' pulls out Oblivion and Oathkeeper.

Mickey and Pete. While I'm not big on the classic Disney shorts, it seems odd that Mickey and Pete have almost no confrontation despite how they're supposed to be rivals. Come to think of it, have those guys ever even spoke face-to-face? They had an opportunity to fight in KH2 during Timeless River. Pete got to meet his old counterpart, so why not Mickey? It would've been an interesting team up. (Plus it'd have made Mickey save his own damn kingdom instead of leaving it to Sora. I wonder what Disney Town thinks about being left to defend themselves while their king, captain of the guards, and court wizard are off adventuring elsewhere.) Sure, Pete is nowhere in the same league as Mickey, but you'd think they'd have some kind of spat along the way.

You've pretty much covered the fights that we're all waiting to see, but the one that I'm looking forward to the most is Isa vs. Lea!  This battle will carry much emotion behind it, and we'll see if Lea has it in him to take out Isa!  There's going to be lots of hesitation on Lea's part, but Isa, whose been completely Norted, will force Lea's hand.  The sheer fact is that this will lead to a truly sad outcome!

 

And well, then there's the obvious one, which is the final clash between Sora(with help from his friends.)and Xehanort!  That'll be a blockbuster battle for the ages!

I personally think his best showing is in The Prince and the Pauper, where his villainy is allowed to shine pretty heavily. For some reason, Kingdom Hearts never tapped into the more malicious Pete, and I'm not sure why not.

I'm not knowledgeable in the old shorts and movies, but in certain continuities like Goof Troop and A(n Extremely) Goofy Movie, Pete is more petty than outright villainous. I also hear his villainous side tends to be downplayed in modern adaptations, just like Mickey isn't an ass like his old incarnations. KH might just be using the modern versions of Mickey and Pete, where Mickey is a good-hearted everyman and Pete is more annoying than anything else. Not that Pete can't be taken seriously at all, since he is in league with Maleficent and he did get pretty close to stealing the Cornerstone of Light in KH2.

 

Pete also serves as a comic relief villain, which could be a breath of fresh air when dealing with the Organization's existential crises and Xehanort's Xehanorting, so there's that.

I'd be down for a three tag team fight against Xehanort, would be very cool to see. (Sora,Riku and Kairi most preferably)

 

 

ALTHOUGH RIKU, I don't know why but im a fan of him so i'd love to see him as a playable character like in dream drop distance...i found sora too overpowered in that game... (LOL SALVATION AND FAITH), while Riku mostly had attack commands that hurt him too like sacrifice, he was really fun to play!.

I like all the match-ups you said. I'd also like to see Sora vs Ventus in the event Ven think Sora is Vanitas.

Now what about duo match-ups? Too many to think of, but I'll list one or two:

 

Roxas and Lea vs Xemnas and Isa

Terra (or lingering will) and Riku vs Xehanort (or Terranort) and Ansem

I want to see Sora vs. Ansem SoD again. I know he's more Riku's nemesis, but we've fought him twice as Riku already, plus it would give an nice opportunity for a KH1 callback with Ansem saying something like "So, you still understand nothing." to Sora.

Okay, well there's absolutely no context in the story as to why this would happen, but I'd love to just see this as like a "test of skill" bonus battle:

Sora vs. Aqua

 

The Terra fight in KH2 is pretty awesome, but just imagining a similar fight with Aqua, who has tons of awesome magic skills in her move set (which, since its a boss fight, could become even flashier and more intense), is just epic. Like I said, it makes no sense within the story, but I can dream can't I? x_x

 

Other than that, everyone else already got the ones I would want (that make sense, at least).

I would like for Riku to finish off Ansem once and for all, Sora (and Roxas?) to fight Xemnes again and to finish him, and for Kairi to fight Young Xehanort until he is forced to time travel back to his original time.
