Posted December 30, 20159 yr I'm going to retake the next SAT (Jan 23rd) and I'm want to ask a few questions.
December 30, 20159 yr I didn't score so high, but that was because I fell asleep on most of the sections [mainly math]
December 30, 20159 yr It was boring and I only took it once but I did really well in math and high average in critical reading and writing but I almost fell asleep during the reading. The reading was insanely boring for me since I was a little tired and the content wasn't that interesting so my advice is to sleep a lot the night before and be prepared to be a little bored for some portions
December 30, 20159 yr Hmm... What do you consider high? I believe I got like 1800 something, but I don't even know if the scoring is the same now. I did substantially better on the ACT, with a 30 on my first try and a 32 on my second, if that might sound better (max is 36, if you didn't know)? The two tests are very different, but I remember them both pretty well. I'd be happy to hear your question, but I'm not sure that I could help. I didn't study for the SAT at all (nor the ACT, for that matter), so I have no tips on that front. And my writing scores weren't great on the SAT or the ACT (and yet I got great scores on my AP English tests because they actually give you a reasonable amount of time to write).

Those are some solid scores, DragonMaster.
December 30, 20159 yr High enough for not having studied at all; 1950. Roughly even in all categories, if I recall right; slightly better in writing and reading and slightly worse in math.
December 30, 20159 yr I got a 36 on my ACT and a 2200 on the SAT. OH MY GOD THE SCORES ARE SO GOOD.I had no idea KH13 was a secret online meeting place for geniuses.
December 30, 20159 yr OH MY GOD THE SCORES ARE SO GOOD.I had no idea KH13 was a secret online meeting place for geniuses.I could of done better on my SAT test, however writing really got me.
December 30, 20159 yr I'm the last person to ask. I hate the SATs and I took it once. Never again. That test is so full of bs it's stupid. I'll only take it again if I absolutely have to for college. Other than that, nope.
December 30, 20159 yr Is it necessary? I have took it many times (my school is an SAT center and SAT is a subject in my school). Well, MOST of my friend hate SAT because the vocabulary is soo... strange... and I only managed to do the math, few readings, and few Vocab
December 30, 20159 yr Uhhh, is this like an American thing or something? Because I did SATs when I was 6 and again when I was 10. I'm assuming that your Sats are probably harder if you're taking them in high school?
December 30, 20159 yr I am in college now so SATs matter not to me anymore. To answer the question, don't look at me as a person who got a high score because I didn't. I got a 36 on my ACT and a 2200 on the SAT.Smarty pants! Good for you though.
December 30, 20159 yr I never took the SAT. I took the ACT and got a 30 dispite not having all the math I needed. I was happy I didn't have to take it again.

I'm assuming that your Sats are probably harder if you're taking them in high school? Yeah, our SAT's must be different. They're one of the two types of college entrance exams in the US, the other being the ACT. Of the two, the SAT is definitely more challenging. Most colleges will accept scores from either test, though some will exclusively ask for one or the other.

Most colleges will accept scores from either test, though some will exclusively ask for one or the other. Ahh, ok thank you! In the UK, Sats are exams you sit when you're in year 2 (second grade?) and in year 6 just to see what level you're working at because both of these years are at the end of a key stage. Year 2 is at the end of key stage 1 and year 6 is at the end of key stage 2. There used to be Sats for year 9, which was at the end of key stage 3 but they got rid of them. They're quite useless really, no one cares about your reading ability at the age of 6

They're quite useless really, no one cares about your reading ability at the age of 6 Hmm, yeah we have tests kind of like those in the US. Each state does them differently, though, so they all have different names. I had to take a few in grade school, and more recently I had to take one in 10th grade (which is the 15-16 age range) which was almost insultingly easy.
December 31, 20159 yr Haven't taken it yet since I'm in my sophomore year of high school. However, when I do, I will be studying a LOT just because I feel it's that important to do well.
January 1, 20169 yr Author I didn't score so high, but that was because I fell asleep on most of the sections [mainly math] Not gonna lie its seriously so boring. The math was much more "funner" though compared to the reading passages. Like I don't have the time to read the passages thoroughly but some questions are just asking for it. i have yet to take my SAT... is it horrible!? Yes and no. The good thing is that it is everything an average high school student knows without taking any advanced courses. From normal reading, sentence comprehension, Algebra, Geometry, etc. is what you'll see on the exam. But since that is too easy and the College Board that create these exams want them to be challenging they have to twist them in a way to the point that it is some bizarre version of the Regents (or if there is another name for those big tests at the end of the year for other states). So you gotta study for the type of test you'll be dealing with. It has less to do with knowing your material and more to do with knowing how the test works. But I can't say this 100% anymore since the new SAT is coming up after the January 23rd one, which is the final current SAT. It was boring and I only took it once but I did really well in math and high average in critical reading and writing but I almost fell asleep during the reading. The reading was insanely boring for me since I was a little tired and the content wasn't that interesting so my advice is to sleep a lot the night before and be prepared to be a little bored for some portions Halfway through it gets boring. Even practicing is boring. But at least you scored high. Hmm... What do you consider high? I believe I got like 1800 something, but I don't even know if the scoring is the same now. That's high but I'm actually shooting for more than that for the uni im interested in haha. My question would be studying wise but I guess you wont be able to answer that. But shit son how did you get so high. I got a 36 on my ACT and a 2200 on the SAT. Did ya study? High enough for not having studied at all; 1950. Are you going to college soon? Almost all 'good' NYC schools want a good SAT score. Its a stupid exam but its not like we got any choice. I could of done better on my SAT test, however writing really got me. Saaaame except my 2nd test my writing was better than my other scores. Ahh, ok thank you! They're quite useless really, no one cares about your reading ability at the age of 6 We have something like that called the State Tests (unless im mistaken). Its what we took in Elementary and Middle school. They don't matter anymore either for us. High School we went into Regents, which honestly not many colleges give a damn unless you failed them. Haven't taken it yet since I'm in my sophomore year of high school. However, when I do, I will be studying a LOT just because I feel it's that important to do well. Alright just know you'll be dealing with a new version of the SAT (you are probably told this constantly) and that I am not sure how much of a change it is from the current one. Study a lot and remember you can take the test multiple times. And if superscores are still around, you can try abusing that method. I might do that if my January score doesn't please me.

January 1, 20169 yr That's high but I'm actually shooting for more than that for the uni im interested in haha. My question would be studying wise but I guess you wont be able to answer that. But shit son how did you get so high. Setting your sights high, good to hear! ^_^ I probably could have done better if I had attempted to study, but honestly I didn't have much motivation at the time. I also didn't have much desire to go to a super intense school (again, I probably could've gotten into one if I had the will to and applied myself more). But yeah, unfortunately I can't help. Honestly, I had no idea how I was supposed to study for the test, so I just didn't. The most that I did was program a bunch of equations into my calculator that I thought might be useful. As for that last question, I honestly don't have an answer. I've just always been good at school and tests. I took almost all of the most advanced classes that were offered to me, though. I took the PSAT as well, so I guess I had that preparation.

My problem is that it's just so long that by the time you're done with it you're all like "wtf" I get that feeling too but just want you to know, everyone feels like that. If you got like a 1500 or around there you can get into a number of colleges already. Whatever that means.

I heard the way to study is to take practice tests and see the ones you go wrong and try to solve it intensely as possible. Whatever that means. Hmm, I think they do release practice tests on the College Board website. As for "intensely as possible" I think they mean that you should try like you're actually taking the test. I think they also make books that are used to prepare for the tests, but I'm pretty sure they're somewhat expensive.
January 1, 20169 yr Man you lot are lucky you only need to take the one test to get into uni. We've got to take gcses at 15/16 and then AS Level at 16/17 then A2's at 17/18 but before those summer exams we have mock examinations, and you might think that you don't need them and they're useless, but actually the mock grades are the ones that the sixth form/college/uni look at and then you'll be given offers from different unis. And don't even get me started on bloody UCAS. So really pretty much all the exams we do actually mean something. Which sucks

Whatever that means.I'm gonna admit I got 1380. ^^' it's embarrassing but that's what I got. It's partially because like by the end I was just so done with the test. I couldn't even like read properly at that point. It sucks because I graduated with a 3.5 GPA for my Senior year of High School with honors for my state. I even got an 100 in my English finals and 90s on my other finals (I think I got a 97 in Algebra 2) so I hope whatever school I decide to go to will be fine with that. I feel like it's unfair because some people are really smart and get such good grades but are bad test takers or are just unlucky with the SATs. At least there's the ACTs I guess.
I'm going to retake the next SAT (Jan 23rd) and I'm want to ask a few questions.
