Playstation 5 "A Maybe" Says Sony Exec

Featured Replies

I've literally had a ps4 for like 3 years and have yet to buy a single game for the ps4, and yet they're still discussing over the possibility of a ps5.

...whatever floats your boat Sony.

It might seem early but, 3 years is half a console cycle basically.

PS1 - 1994

PS2 - 2000

PS3 - 2006

PS4 - 2013

I think it's more because there aren't many memorable games on the console. I felt the same way about the PS3. On the other hand it felt like I owned a PS1 and a PS2 for ages because of how many games I played on them.

But yeah, I give it 4 years max before they release the PS5.

"If" they say? That's interesting. I know it's early, but I am a little surprised they aren't trying to make something new already.

And coupling this with the rumors of the PlayStation NEO...gg Sony. I'm in the same boat with my PS4 and not having any games for it. I traded a co-worker for his when I was trying to get rid of my Xbox One, and I don't even know what to DO with this thing anymore. Was considering the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remake, Disgaea 5, Persona 5, KH 2.8, KH 3, Super Robot Taisen OG: The Moon Dwellers, maybe the next Gran Turismo game, hell, even Senran Kagura Estival Versus, but the way that things are going, most of those titles may end up on PC in some fashion (holding out for Shinovi Versus this summer, personally), so I don't even see the need for a console anymore except for random exclusives. The NEO's promise of 60fps sounds nice, though, so I don't even know if it would be worth trading my PS4 in for one.

tl;dr: Sony, why? =_=

Why did you buy a PS4 or Xbox One to start with if there were no games you want? I'm holding off until there is something I want. It's the most economical way to game.

I started off with the Xbox One because I used to be an avid Halo player and was quite active in the online community. My stepbrother also wanted me to team up with him so we could curbstomp like we used to back in Halo 2/3/Reach. I had my eyes set on the Master Chief Collection, Forza 6, and likely Forza Horizon 2. Unfortunately, the PS4 looked like I'd be missing out on a lot more import PS4-exclusive games, as well as KH (which I'd natively want to play on a Sony console, because that's how I played 1/2/CoM) and Persona. When I started hearing that Square was likely porting a lot of its lineup to PC a few months later, it just lost a lot of its luster. Maybe I had high hopes (and I still have SOME, especially for the ones that aren't going to be ported to PC) or something, but certain anime-based titles drew me over. *shrug* I'm in that half-phase where I'm contemplating ditching consoles in favor of PC games. I'm not an elitist, and I try my hardest not to be one, but consoles are so turbulent right now.

Yeah, I don't think the Playstation 5 will be a thing just yet!  Normally, a Sony console's life cycle ranges from eight to ten years, so if we are getting a PS5, it'll probably be by 2021!  In the meantime, many new games can be made for the PS4 to expand its library, ya know?

At the moment, I'm enjoying Star Wars: Battlefront and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, and I'll be getting Final Fantasy XV and Uncharted: A Thief's End too!  Couple that with Kingdom Hearts III and 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, along with any other game that piques my interest, and yeah, I'm pretty happy with my PS4! :D

They're probably just thinking about it. I don't think they'll actually try to release it until a while from now. Something like 2020 sounds reasonable. I can only imagine making a console (especially for the future of gaming) can take a LONG time, so I can understand them already trying to think of what they're going to do down the line. With Microsoft and the PC being very strong rivals, Sony probably just wants to have a solid plan.

As for Nintendo... I just got my Wii-U plz don't do this to me omg

PS5? Me thinks someone be getting just a tad bit desparate here?

We're only at 2 years. It was released just before Christmas of 2013 in the US, and wasn't worldwide until February 2014.

It's closer to 2 and a half. Most Western Countries saw the release in November 2013. Either way, we are close to the half-way mark of the console generation.

That's fair enough. I am primarily a PC gamer too (and I have a 3DS which I haven't touched in a year). I probably would be in a similar situation if I had console playing friends but mine are PC gamers too. I'll likely buy a console prior to KH's release and pick up any JRPGs which haven't made their way to PC too.

We are a year away, and PS4 might last longer with PS4.5 on the way.

We are 7 months away from November which is when it released in NA/EU/AU. Rounding to two and a half years is more accurate than rounding to two years which makes it seem like the gen has only just started, when in fact it is halfway through nearly. This gen might last longer but based off historical console generation lengths it is only a couple months away from the mid-point.

Well I'm talking about the very first releases. The PS1 for example was released worldwide in 1995. 1994 was only the Japan release date.

Also, the PS4.5 just seems like a PS4 slim with enhanced features. Especially since it won't have any exclusive games.

Can't the generation releases between 6-7 years. The PS4 is also doing very welll.

So I expect it atleast in E3 2019.
