Take this with a grain of salt, a big one, but I was thinking about it and

 

The trailer we just got for 2.8 was relatively short, just under 3 minutes, then of course we saw the release month and whatnot. Then there was a one second delay and we got the stuff about KH3 news in winter 2016.

 

Now, keep in mind that this trailer we saw for 2.8 IS THE OFFICIAL E3 2016 TRAILER. It is the trailer that they would show off at E3 2016. There are 2 possibiliities

 

1. Square Enix removed the KH3 segment of the trailer and are saving it for E3 2016, and that announcement is at the end of the KH3 trailer. The JF trailer had 2.8 first, then KH3 attached to the end, so perhaps this is the same situation and Square are saving KH3 for the Sony conference.

 

Think about it, just because it said '"Announcement" doesn't rule out the possibility of recieving some footage does it? An Announcement is completely different from footage.

 

That KH3 logo that appeared with the news update it could be the ending of KH3 footage that they removed from this 2.8. KH3 has been at every E3 since it was announced in some shape or form, 2014 we got the teaser, 2015 we got a trailer, unless this little update at the end of the 2.8 is our KH3 dose for this year's E3.

 

We know that Square aren't having a conference so no one can get interviews with them or anything like that. Perhaps the update is attached to a trailer and it's basically telling us

"You've gotten a trailer, no more news until winter"

 

I think this "Announcement" is not the release date but the announcement of a special KH event in March, the series 15th anniversary where KH3's release date will be unveiled. Anyhow, the content of the "announcement" is irrelevant in this thread.

 

 

2.There is no KH3 trailer at all because they want us to get hyped for 2.8 which is extremely plausible. But they need to keep the ball rolling, a small KH3 trailer and then no news until December won't make us forget about 2.8 at all.

Lets just remember E3 2013! We had no idea that there was ever going to be an announcement about Kingdom Hearts in any shape or form. And maybe it won't be an announcement but maybe a special little trailer or even something from Tetsuya Nomura like it was back in 2013. Never doubt Square to have a surprise for us! 

At this point I honestly don't think we'll see KH3 at E3. If it does, it'll only be at the Sony Conference. I do agree with a lot of your points though.A trailer isn't an announcement. I would consider the Big Hero 6 reveal an announcement, but not a trailer. They could just drop it at the conference and that's it.While I don't believe it will be at E3, I also can't believe Square would go a whole year without KH3 info (the last time being Jump Festa). Having a trailer next week would help keep the hype alive.  There is no D23 this year in either California or Japan. The D23 conventions happen every other year, so D23 won't be until 2017.The trailer clearly states winter, and TGS is in September, which is not winter. So that's a no go as well.

I thought d23 alternates years but on opposite years, I thought only US had one in 2015 and Japan had it in 2014. And I put the wrong title. I meant whatever that one Japanese game conference is that's in December. Sorry for the wrong info

Square Enix are not trolls. I don't know why people keep saying that. Square Enix announces things sometimes and sometimes they don't. Why does that count as trolling? lol

 

I don't understand how the FF7 port was a troll. Yes, it seemed like a troll to a majority but it was a legitimate product that is still being sold and is a source of profit for Square Enix. I wouldn't call that a troll at all, even if Hashimoto knew a remake was in the works. What did you expect him to say? "Oh, by the way, a remake is in the works just so you guys don't get pissed like I know you do." PS Experience was a relatively new event at the time, so the announcement wouldn't have gained as much attention as it would have at E3, where, as you know, it was one of the most viewed reveals of the conference.

 

The Kingdom Hearts coverage at E3 didn't seem like a troll to me, either. I mean, think about it, would you really show KH3 before the mobile game that you want to be successful? I would think you'd want to peak people's interests first before dropping the major bomb that is KH3 on them. Maybe Hashimoto enjoyed it, but that doesn't represent Square Enix as a whole.

I think it's a ruse; think about it; if KH3 was confirmed in any capacity it would have completely have eclipsed anything that 2.8 trailer had to offer. Also at Square's event; we know Kingdom Hearts will be there; 2.8 will be playable. However I don't believe 2.8 will be the only game there.

 

In fact; fair play to Square; they lower the hype for the game then can totally surprise everyone. That trailer was so good it was E3 worthy; there has to be a reason why it was shown beforehand.

I think they did that to either show a short teaser trailer for kh3 at e3 eventually or to lower the hype for kh3 so that the game won't overhyped in the next 6 months so that fans will be surprised on how much good kh3 information they're receiving when December comes. I think the highlighted portion is more likely what they're planning.

This has been a very fine and awesome discussion!  The enigma that is Kingdom Hearts III continues to elude us, and yet it might be closer to us than we might possibly think!

Well, you're right about 2.8 being drowned in the sea of trailers. Another factor, however, is that Square could very well have many other games lined up for the event which does not allow 2.8 to be shown at the event. Sometimes, time slots are just too stuffed to show everything there and Square has a lot of big titles for E3 from what I understand.

That is also true!  So in the end, we could really not end up with a KHIII trailer at all...but that doesn't stop me from hoping!
