True, it was never said in any of the games but Nomura confirmed it in a Famitsu Interview: -- At that point, it seems like Aqua has been lost for a long time. Nomura: Yes. From when she comes to the world of darkness to when she meets Ansem the Wise, over 10 years have passed in the outside world. The flow of time is different in the world of darkness and the outside world, so it doesn't feel like 10 years have passed. But there's no mistaking that she's been in the world of darkness for quite a long time. @Heart_XIII Ah, now I see what you mean. I tend to think of CoM as a sequel to KHI and KHI and II as numbered titles. Because to me 'sequel' just means a story that is written to continue a previously written story, so I thought you meant that KH 3D might be a prequel. So, you mean that you don't think that KH 3D's storyline is directly connected to that of Coded's? In that case, I agree with you.

Actually, Nomura said this in the Another Report book that came with Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix to the people who preordered the game. Here's the quote as translated by TheWertle:

Terra, Aqua and Ven are not dead, so I think it would be bad storytelling if they just leave them where they are. And why would Ven disappear once he gets his heart back? Kairi didn't when she got her's back. Personally, I think the fact that there are keyblade wielders that are better than Sora make this storyline seem more realistic. Even Nomura has said that there is nothing special about Sora other then his ability to connect his heart with anyone. And as VentusX stated, Nomura said that Sora will be the main character til the end. They don't need to kill Terra, Aqua and Ven for them to not be the main characters. @ SoraKing3, I don't see why Disney would not allow Square Enix to kill off one of their OCs if it furthers the story. Especially since they've killed off many of their own characters. It seems more uncharacteristic of Nomura to have his characters killed off, since he has stated in the BBS Ultimania that "in the world of KH there is no concept of death".

Wouldn't Ansem the Wise still be in the world of darkness/nothingness in KH1. He didn't seem to want to reveal himself until Chain of Memories. I can't remember if he even had the ability to leave the world of darkness/nothingness yet.

Axel's torment is the same as Roxas; it lies in the fact that they have forgotten something important, or in this case, someone: Xion. Xion's torment is that he was completely forgotten. Find a way to bring back those memories of her, and the three of them are freed. Anyways, that scene with Ven and Terra, RAX, and Namine, was completely symbolic, just to show who needs to be saved from torment. I don't know. These comments that Nomura makes in the BBS Ultimania interview makes it seem like a more physical "revival". But I suppose you could be right.
