DQ VIII did well on the PS2, but the DQ series has always been a little shaky outside of Japan. Square-Enix pretty much gave everyone outside of Japan an ultimatum: buy Dragon Quest Heroes or we won't localize anymore titles. I am not entirely sure how serious Square was about that but I wouldn't doubt it if that is what ended up happening. So unless DQ Heroes magically generates a good number of sales in the next little while, it it likely that Square will no longer be localizing the titles. It seems Nintendo has some faith in the series, which is why they are publishing VII & VIII, so our only solid hope for the series to continue outside of Japan at this point is with Nintendo.

Well then it it pretty safe to assume that Dragon Quest is likely dead on Playstation and it's only chance of continuing outside of Japan is with Nintendo. Plus, if Nintendo's NX is really going to get Dragon Quest XI and can support the version that will be on PS4, it shouldn't be a terrible loss as long as Nintendo supports Dragon Quest.

I had no idea that this was a thing. Thank you very much for this, this will be a perfect way to end my replay of the XIII saga.

I've replayed most of them many times, so I am kind of tired of all the older games at this point. I am not playing DDD again until 2.8. I will probably do a complete playthrough of all the games once we are close to KHIII's release, but until then I am kind of taking a break from replaying games in general and trying to clear my enormous back-log of games.

I personally resonated more with Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, so that was the best PS2 RPG for me; but that doesn't take away from the fact that FFX is still one of the best RPG titles I have ever played.

During today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that Bravely Second will be releasing in Spring (Q1) of 2016. This announcement was small and Nintendo really just flew over the announcement, not showing anything new, but it is nice to have a release narrowed down to when most of us were expecting it.

In a very surprising announcement, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII was just announced as a character coming to Super Smash Bros for 3DS & Wii U. No release date was given, but there will be a Smash News event held in December where it is likely to be announced along with other exciting Smash news. The other notable news is that there will be a stage based on Midgar, and it appears that a costume choice for Cloud is his Advent Children/KH2 look.

Dragon Quest VII & VIII were just announced to be coming to Nintendo 3DS, in the west, in 2016. Dragon Quest VII is being released in Summer 2016 while Dragon Quest VIII is coming sometime in 2016. This is great news as it seemed very bleak that we would get anymore Dragon Quest Games in the west. It appears that Square wasn't completely honest when they said that DQ Heroes was what the future of the series depended on (although it is likely that any future title on another system will depend on Dragon Quest Heroes sales). It is likely that Nintendo are the ones doing the translations for these games, which could lead to the possibility of DQ XI at least getting a 3DS localization depending on how well these games sell.

I will agree to that, the representation would be completely off. I think Builders still has a good chance of being localized because of its appeal to a larger audience. Hopefully Heroes has done well enough at retail to justify them giving the West one more shot with a main series game; although I don't think I will hold my breath for that.

I will agree to the 3Ds sales don't compare with PS4, but since XI is also having a 3DS release it would still be a decent representation, and I think it would be better to base the future of DQ on a core series game when it is the core series on the line . As far as Builders, yeah it is pretty non-mainline, but I have seen more people wanting Builders than I ever saw wanting Heroes (plus with the success of Minecraft it could be a potential cash grab for Square)

I would think localizing the 3DS versions of VII or VIII over Heroes would provide a more accurate representation. I would even say DQ Builders would have been a better investment to localize. Heroes is a good game, but I have seen a lot more talk and excitement about all those games than I ever saw for Heroes.

Dagnabit! The PS Experience had better be amazing because my hype for it is off the charts now! Personally looking forward to: -Kingdom Hearts 2.8 -Star Ocean V -Dragon Quest Builders -Ratchet & Clank -Uncharted 4 -The Witness -Wild -World of Final Fantasy -Horizon Zero Dawn -Dreams I also feel Square might present a tiny bit of info on FFVII Remake.

I doubt they will talk about it, but I have been dying to hear more about Bravely Second's localization; they announced it and have never talked about it since. Other than that, I expect to hear about: -Twilight Princess HD since it is pretty much a given at this point -A Smash character announcement that will drop after the direct (Not quite sure if I believe that they will share the ballot results) -Fire Emblem Fates release date -Coverage of the games that are announced that are releasing before the end of the year. -Star Fox Zero news -Explaining their holiday lineup this year. -DLC talk for games like Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. -Other game announcements, although they will probably be lower key titles. -I also expect that there will be some sort of tribute to Iwata. This direct won't be anything huge, with Twilight Princess HD being the high point for it. Hopefully though it will provide the news that many of us fans have been waiting and have been expecting to hear.

They had better have a sweet collectors edition to go along with the 20th anniversary then.

I still think it is ridiculous to base the future of a series in other countries based on the sales of a title that has nothing to do with the main series.

I would totally be down for both of these.

As far as I am concerned, when the series director (Nomura) says in countless interviews "Please look forward to D23" I kind of think that counts as an official statement that people should expect to see more than two screenshots from that event. I think you may be confused, there is only D23 every two years in both Anaheim and Japan. Last year, the only KH3 footage that was shown was at the 2.5 launch event.

It would really hurt the series name for Nomura to hype up the world for D23 and only give a select few people the chance to see what he hyped up. Even if they never intended to release it, they would have to now if they don't want to significantly piss off their fanbase. the 2.5 event was okay because they kept that trailer under wraps and treated it as a bonus, but when they tell the world to expect a new trailer, it would be very bad practice not to deliver.

I honestly think that Monday will be the day. It will have been a full week since the event which makes a lot of sense, so I think it is best just to take the weekend and relax.

I think that would mean that Lea would be able to dual wield actually. The reason Sora can dual wield is because Ventus's heart rests inside him; so by that logic since it would be Lea and MX's heart inside of Lea, he would be able to dual wield. MX would still only have his heart inside himself so he would still only have access to his one Keyblade.

Nomura stated around E3 that they had just finished finalizing the worlds and that they had just finished the core mechanics and it was all about mass producing them right now. The game is a lot farther than we thought it was. I stated back at E3 that the worlds right now are like having the bare bones of a bunch of buildings done and now all they are doing is decorating and painting them. By next E3 or TGS there will be plenty to show and the game to our eyes will probably look complete; plus if they are aiming for a Q2 or Q3 2017 release like many of us suspect, that is plenty of time for the game to be finished. You also have to take into account that they are also working on 2.8 which requires them to build the Realm of Darkness and possibly Daybreak Town. Not to mention that there is a possibility of there being 5 worlds completed: Kingdom of Corona, Mount Olympus, Twilight Town, Mysterious Tower, & Cable Town/Land of Departure. I would say they are doing a bang up job for how much they have on their plates.

I don't know if this would be the game to start with if you aren't familiar with Dragon Quest or this style of game, since it has a basic story and mostly rides on the characters that cameo from other Dragon Quest games. I would recommend Hyrule Warriors if you own a Wii U to test the waters, or even trying to find an older Dynasty Warrior game for cheap. I find the game rather charming and I have only played two DQ games. I would like to recommend it though since Square Enix basically said that this game makes or breaks it for the franchise outside of Japan.
