Read Divergent and Blood Red Road. They were my two favourite books of 2011 and I highly recommend them.

Western Canada consists of the provinces Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. I will not tell you which province I live in. You can guess all you want but I will not tell you. I don't trust this site THAT much.

So basically in family terms.
Vanitas made his babies, aka Unversed, and he killed them and feel sad about it.
He misses his mother (lets say Ventus is his mother) and he hated his mother for leaving. He felt so sad that he just wanted to come back with his mother, and to make his mother stay he needs to form a x-blade.
