1996 [Red/Blue] - "A Pokémon that has been overhunted almost to extinction. It can ferry people across the water."

 

1999 [Gold] - "They have gentle hearts. Because they rarely fight, many have been caught. Their number has dwindled"

 

2002 [R/S/E] - "People have driven Lapras almost to the point of extinction. In the evenings, this Pokémon is said to sing plaintively as it seeks what few others of its kind still remain."

 

 

 

But now, 20 years later:

 

2016 [Moon] - "These Pokémon were once near extinction due to poaching. Following protective regulations, there is now an overabundance of them."

 

 

The extinction has been averted!!

Of note, it also has this to say about Grimer and Muk:

 

[Grimer-Normal, Sun] Its main source of food is the slimy industrial waste of factories. This Pokémon's numbers have been decreasing in recent years.

[Muk-Normal, Moon] After recent environmental improvements, this Pokémon is now hardly seen at all. People speculate that it may go extinct at some point.

 

Well, Pokémon has always skewed towards the idealistic end of the scale...

In this world, Muk and Grimer would number in the Overpopulation scale, while Lapras would have gone extinct years ago.

They're legal so no need. Only for anyone that wants to sneak in undetected.

I love how these Pokedex entry show that time has passed in the Pokémon World just like it has in the real world. Porygon's says that it was made "20 years ago."

Yeah, but now all of them are everywhere and they keep putting other hard working Pokemon out of work.

Well whaddaya know, now there's more Lapras than ever before! Now they'll probably round up and avenge their fallen comrades after all those years of being driven to the point of extinction!

 

It'll be the Laprocalypse!
