I've been watching reaction videos to the Final Battle Trailer and after crying for the last hour I finally asked myself why this specific piece of media had me in my feelings. 

 

Honestly i dont know what it is. This game is legendary. I've grown to see Sora grow up himself and some might consider him family. I cant stand to see everyone being dealt a bad hand! The series hits everyone's feels in different ways for different reasons. What's yours?

I don't know how I feel about the final battle trailer.  I am just hoping Lea is okay.

After thinking about this for a few minutes, I honestly don't know, and it's really hard to describe. There's just some things I casually like, some things I love but am not too invested in, and then there's the select few that are extremely important to me and stays with me for a long time. Kingdom Hearts is one of the latter. I don't know if it's nostalgia or something else, but I remember being obsessed with KH2 back in middle school and replaying it over and over again (even though I never got passed Demyx until much later). Middle school was not a particularly fun time for me, so this was one of the fun things about it. So it helped with some tough times as well. 

Honestly all of it.  The characters, the hero’s and the villains.  The overall story is deep and compelling and I love how the characters are relatable in many ways.  The biggest I guess thing that I love about kingdom hearts as a whole is the conflict of light vs darkness good vs evil it’s a timeless tale.  

I liked how Riku was able to make peace with his darkness and that darkness itself isn't sinister.  It can be a force for good.  Seeing Riku go through the trials and tribulations, he went through.  I just hope he goes on living and be able to bring others that went down the same path he did back from MX's influence. 

The characters and the friendships. Cheesy stuff like this is what I live for. I love all the characters and I want to see them get the good happy endings they all have been denied for so long. I got emotional watching the trailers because I remember all their stories and am looking forward to seeing some tearful reunions and forge new friendships among themselves.

First of all, and this is a big one for me, Kingdom Hearts reignited my love for video games, and introduced me to JRPGs. I used to play a lot when I was kid, but when I got into middle school I kinda grew out of the games I had been playing and couldn't find anything new that interested me. Plus, I used to be really shy kid and had hard time picking up new things (idk if it makes sense, but I knew about Kingdom Hearts back then and I was intrigued by it, but it somehow felt ''too out of reach'' so I never even bothered with it). Then, the summer before high school my sister one day just came home with the game, and when we started playing it, we both just fell in love with the game instantly.

Also, looking back I realize that I associate Kingdom Hearts with a particularly great episode of my life (probably the best time I've ever had, honestly... kinda makes me sad to think about it in a way). So I think in a way when I think about Kingdom Hearts, it also mentally puts me back into that time of my life.

But then, the reason why it's REALLY special to me is a bit more difficult to put into words, because I'm not sure if I even know it myself. But Kingdom Hearts has this air about it that just makes me feel like a kid again? I think it might have something to do with how how unpredictable the story is. It kinda always leaves you guessing and wondering what's coming next. And it's gotten to a point that I don't really care that it's honestly not the most well thought-out story out there, or that there are plot holes and inconsistencies. I just always have such a good time with Kingdom Hearts. I love the characters, I love the lore, and I love the gameplay in most of the games. Kingdom Hearts just makes me happy, and in the end that's what matters to me.

Wow, I guess I just ended up writing an essay... I hope it made at least some sense.

 

Days kind of help me get through the nonsense I was going through with mental health and being homeless for a time. 

358/2 Days helped me get over some stupid fears that I had as a kid (Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice in Wonderland to be specific). I kind of grew up along with Roxas, trying to keep friends through out middle school and high school but always not good enough for them... Kingdom Hearts introduced me to Final Fantasy, The World Ends With You and Kingdom Hearts 1 was the first time I got a platinum trophy for on the PS3. There's so much to do in the games, I love the story and characters, and it's nice to whack heartless and nobodies around with sweet moves. That's what makes it special to me ?

Kingdom Hearts to me is so many things. In a lot of ways it was the first fandom i ever joined, the first videogame story that ever really got to me. The first time I ever cried over a story was at Axels death in KH2. 

KH i also associate with me growing up and what was going on at different stages of me growing up. When ever i play a KH game inevitably so many memories of the fandom or of my life at the time come flooding back. The ups, the downs, the tragedies, the heart breaks, the struggles what ever was going oni could always go to this game and revisit these characters and this uplifting story and it would restore something in me.

Make me happy when i was sad, remind me to hope to look for light to hope for friends, to cherish the times i had with friends even if it didnt last forever. That spliting up as friends because of moves or circumstance didnt mean the end. That no matter what, so long as we kept each other in our thoughts, we were still friends. 

I always had problems with making and keeping friends, so Days was always a particularly good therapy game to remind me to keep trying for friends even when i wanted to give up and just not try anymore. 

It's honestly so much of everything to me. I started playing when i was younger than the characters, grew to be their age and now I'm gonna be in my mid 20s when the game I've been waiting so much time for comes out. It's such a weird feeling. It feels like an ending, the final page of the book of my childhood. After this, I wont stop playing, but every game through my childhood has been leading to this and when it's over, every game after will be me enjoying it and experiencing and expecting it as a grown up person. 

It's surreal. But I dont mind.

KH will always be that light I know to lift me when I'm down, an old friend to visit. It's been such a crazy ride, and I cant wait for the next grand adventure with it

Kingdom Hearts has always meant a lot to me because it was the first console game I ever played. I remember I was 10 years old and I saw the commercial for the first game on TV way back in 2002, and I ran upstairs and brought my mom down to show her the commercial and told her I wanted it for Christmas. A few months later, it was wrapped and under the tree. I have adored the series ever since. It's just always been the series i'm most passionate about, and I think it's because it was my first true introduction to console gaming (we never had a Nintendo 64 or anything, just the original NES).  

It was my first console game too!!! I was in 3rd grade and the game was coming out that year.  We were learning how to write different types of essays in school,  and I wrote a persuasive essay about why I should get kingdom hearts and a ps2 for christmas haha!!! It's been wild growing up with these characters, I honestly don't know how I'll react to the ending!!!!

For me, I guess it's the fact that I grew up with it. I was in elementary school when I first played and now I'm in Uni and it's always been apart of my life. So when I think of Kingdom Hearts...I think of my life, of all the growing up I did, of past memories and such. So it's definitely very important to me. I also relate to Riku's character arc on a deeper level. His struggle against his own darkness is something I think a lot of people actually go through in life.

It got me sort of interested in the Final Fantasy series. 

What Kingdom Hearts means to me......

It's hard to describe. I honestly don't know to be honest with you. For a long time, until this year in fact, I would have told you that it was just a game series that I enjoyed, and that I just wanted to know the end of the story, nothing more, nothing less.

But after going through all the trailers this past year, and being impacted emotionally to the point of tears by more than a few, I've had to realise that it means much more to me than that.

Waiting for KH3 has been a journey in and of its self, and sharing that journey with so many people, from this site in particular, that I'm now proud to call my friends, has only added to the already heightened senses surrounding this game.

Without all of this, the memes in random, the chatroom parties, the tournaments that never ended, seeing the whole site react to the new trailers by losing their shit over statuses, staying up/waking early to watch the trailer live with all of you, and then the theorising over the minutest of details, without all of this, I don't think I would be as connected to the game as I am now.

Of course, I love the games, I always will, they're so sincere and they appeal to part of me that's still optimistic and innocent about the world.

But to me at least, in this moment in time, Kingdom Hearts means the friends I've made along the way.

 

The story and characters. I've been a fan since I was in elementary, and now I'm going to college soon. Kingdom Hearts became a great part of my life. Because of this series, I met a lot of good people in the fandom. I relate to the characters so much (especially to Riku) and I've learned that we should believe in the light to defeat the darkness within us. (I know it's sound so cheesy but it's true)

Whenever I feel sad, I'll just play KH2 or KH RE:COM. Those are my comfort games.
