Yeah so the many box cutscenes do feel like wasted time because by the end you're no closer to knowing the mystery, the epilogue does a fine job of setting up future events on its own so when the box is finally opened, all the KH3 cutscenes dedicated to it will feel inconsequential I reckon because the epilogue is the better teaser.
This goes for Maleficent and Pete expecially, I'd argue that had they just shown up in the epilogue it would have a far better impact than them bumbling through the game, though some of the interactions were cool like with hades.

I also realized something about half the disney worlds in KH3, they do something that only a few other worlds in the series has done, but on a much worse scale

btw I think a better "motivation" for Sora visiting the worlds would have been just "find out what the org is planning and what they are doing in the worlds" like in KH2. Would have been much better than just the power of waking stuff. It makes from a story perspective sense that Sora always had the power, because he was already able to use it in DDD. :linkusAYAYA:

So in previous KH titles Sora has almost always been following the stories of the disney worlds, no matter what the story is, with at least 1 disney character, this disney character is often in the party but sometimes isnt. Also also in previous titles the Disney characters are with sora even when he encounters people like ORG 13 or maleficent, and in exchange sora is with the disney characters for their stories. But in KH3, 3 out of the 7 explorable worlds dont even do this at all, or very very little. Tangled, Forzen, and (most of) Pirates. In tangled Rapunzel and Flynn are seperated from Sora, donald, and goofy for extensive portions of the world, and most dialogue between sora and marluxia is soley between them, this is the least offensive case. In frozen, you are constanly seperated from the story of frozen taking away not only huge chunks of the disney story, but basically removing the feeling that Sora has any inflence in these stories at all, it becomes even more apparent when you are getting pushed down a mountain and constantly seperated from the story. Pirates with fake jack makes everything you did between when you got seperated from the real jack and when you reach the Kraken, feel very unnecessary. We got a pirate ship, but at the cost of not having any real affect on the worlds actual story. Look back to KH1 and 2 and there are numerous times when even when the stories of the worlds arent one to one the movies, Sora still feels like he has an affect on the events in these worlds. KH3 even has worlds that do this idea correctly. Monstropolis, Toy Box, Olympus, and Sanfransokyo understand Sora needs to contribute to these characters arcs or else there is no point for Sora to even be here.
