@KH-Queen I finally know what people mean with wrong translations from JP to english.

あめ I guess it's pronounced a-me?

If I google this I get candy but apparently it can also mean rain? that's crazy

I assume that it's commonly more used for candy then

I completed half of the hiragana alphabet in 2 hours of studying but I don't know if this is good.

はし the same with this term btw

ngl I am giggling rn because I think having multiple meanings with the same letters is firetrucking sick

because I assume it can go so wrong in certain cases

laughsinnomura

:AYAYA:

I think the term for this is homographs

e.g in english bat has also different meanings

I learned my first kingdom hearts related word ゆうひ :POGGIES:

Actually the opposite! LOL

Would anyone be willing to lend me their PSN? I still need KH 2.8...

Japanese is a very context dependant language. The specific meaning meant is deduced from the context

If I say ame when it starts raining, you know I mean rain

If we’re in a sweet shop, you know I mean candy

Fights about mistranslations often ignore this aspect, I have noticed

Technically speaking pronounciation is also slightly different but beginners shouldn’t worry too much about pitch accent

Kanji also helps differentiate

雨 is rain and 飴 is candy

Funny cause to me the rain one looks like its got a little umbrella and the candy one looks like big marquee signage lol

I learned the entire hiragana alphabet including dakuten and how tsu is used in sentences btw :POGGIES:

I studied for 6 hours today

it's super addicting

Katakana looks so much better in comparison though

Thats awesome man, im mad jelly

Oh you also know Japanese? Noice haha

I hate bringing up that I know it and some weebs say the cringiest shit in my life or act all high and mighty

I hope Katakana doesn't have shit like ni and ta btw. I am confused everytime I see one of these characters because I always mix them up
