Also about FF13 the plot is more focused on the themes Freedom and Hope. Freedom from the oppression of the Fal'cie. The xenophobia is never really the main problem which is addressed, it is played off more as a reason that the Pulsians had to cause Cocoon's downfall which benefitted the Fal'cie. It's definitely there but it's not exactly what the game is about. And I can see where someone can come up with the idea of them feeling trapped but it is more an internalised feeling of being trapped because of their inescapable destinies rather than feeling trapped by their environments. A better idea imo would have been to say that its linear because the main cast are constantly on the move from the authorities. Even then, it doesn't really provide an excuse to sacrifice gameplay like that. And if you were going to go down the route of creating a sense of the cast feeling trapped there are plenty of more engaging ways to do it.
