If we knew what make the device was, we could probably help you figure out how to take the shot.

Generally, holding the volume down button and power button at the same time briefly will do the trick.

I know iPad has it as the home button and the power button, but there is also an accessibility shortcut bubble you can get to stick around w/ a transparent overlay w/ that option as well.
