I would plug the device is while it rests in the stand, but my step brother says that it harms the battery life for it to keep on charging.

most phones just stop accepting charge once it reaches max percentage

or allow for a very small amount so that you can stay between 99-100

or laptops know now if you keep it plugged it in all the time so it keeps the battery at 70% to keep it live longer

I've been seeing results that say it's fine to keep them plugged in since they are designed to discharge at 100% so we can keep them plugged in however long we want, though.

As for tablets, I've had them turn off on me despite having plenty of charge. 21% can last one to two minutes, but it would troll me and go down to 1% from 20% (the warning level) in two minutes. Tricky tablet
