Definitely this. MOM gives the impression of a guy who knows a lot more than he lets on. You don't screw around with someone like that; especially when all his predictions have been accurate so far.

As a character I find him interesting because he acts mostly apathetic to a situtation everyone else is taking deadly seriously. The dude definitely knows something that we don't (most likely whatever is in the Black Box™️) and I'm super curious to find out what exactly that is.
