After having a debate with some of my friends from another forum last night, I decided to bring this discussion to KH13. What is your take on cussing? Do you think it's bad or do you think it should be tolerated? Keep in mind that I will ask this thread to be closed if a flame war starts, and I don't want that to happen. Lets just have an interesting and friendly debate.

I mean in general people consider cussing inappropriate yet people do it all the time I mean its fine with me as long as people don't cuss every other word because then it becomes annoying . I have no reason to hate cussing or dislike it ,though it can be very disrespectful at times . But yea cussing is fine especially since i was told my first word was F*** , lol my parents cussed around me way to much as a baby.

Everybody who has read my comments or chatted with me knows that I am really liberal with curses.

But I don't insult other members with it. I just use curses to emphasize certain parts of my statements or just for the f*ckin' lulz. See.

And I don't understand why people would rage about it.

Curses are there for a reason. They are there to convey tone in a certain way or provoke or to get attention or whatever.

If your "religion" or whatever you call it prevents you from using them... guess what... DON'T USE THEM! But your holy books also teaches to tolerate other people and their choices.

Also I dislike the censorship on this site. My comments shouldn't be deleted cause they have the word "semen" in them.

Yes it is about the kids on this site. But these kids hear these words everyday and their parents are there for the education to teach them not to use curses ect. or keep them away from the Internet. You can't stay 10min on the Internet WITHOUT reading the f-word. Deal with it.

 

Also I have to add that I wasn't being attacked on this site for my "potty-mouth". I was just talking in general.

As long as it's not used to degrade a person place or thing It's fine.

 

Good: That guy is firetrucking hilarious!

 

Bad: That guy is firetrucking stupid!

Basically, it depends on the context in which it was used.

Cuss words are just words people have made into inappropriate. That's my view. I don't see them as any different than any other word.

i don't mind cussing, depending on how much someone is saying it. like, there's this boy in my class who cusses in every sentencce he says and it's very annoying. i don't mind the cussing, but as long as it's not taken overboard

Actually I'm the weirdo who uses shizzlecakes and fudgednuts and dad gummit.

Some swear words are great at excentuating certain points. But they should only be used in an appropriate context. For example, some songs. However, frequent use makes them stand out less, and is not gooooood.

i thought "shit" was a curse word on the same level as the f word yet i see it everywhere...

There's words I find more offensive than your basic set of cuss words, so I really don't mind.

Personally I do cuss though I use it in a funny context though I don't use it often. You know to enhance some sentences though I will shout a cuss word if I'm angry, mainly because my Grandpa has a sailor mouth that even a sailor doesn't want. He uses the F-word a lot and shit and damn as well. And my Dad, the father that he is, cusses with the same sailor tongue. It's like I inherited it though I don't like cussing as much as them. Actually I'm trying to stop all together, though sometimes it will slip off my tongue. Which I hate =-= though I'll get over it.

I'm fine with cursing as long as it's not used excessively and in the right environment. Sure, I'll admit to saying shit, damn, firetruck, etc. off and on but I don't really like to use it too much. Whenever I'm in public and I hear people using it normally in their vocabulary in-between every other word I dunno...I feel like whenever someone curses too much it hampers their vocabulary and they end up having a hard time when they're older with speaking because they can't think of another word besides shit or firetruck.

 

If someone is trying to be serious as well they need to not cuss because it makes them sound completely unintelligent when they throw curse words in there. I also find cussing excessively to be an extreme turn-off because if a guy is trying to impress me they shouldn't need to curse so often... =

 

In a casual environment... eh, it depends. I won't really cuss that often but I don't mind if others do it every now and then.

 

On the internet eh... it's sort of the same thing. If they're trying to be serious I won't take them seriously if they're cussing too much in their serious post but if it's for fun or whatever I don't usually mind. Cussing doesn't really offend me... I feel like it's the lowest form of an insult and a rather unintelligent one when people can't seem to think of anything better to post. I'll cuss on the internet every now and then too, but I still don't like doing it excessively (like when me and friends are joking or whatever).

 

As for say censoring like what we've done on this website it doesn't really bother me and I could care less if certain words were censored or not.

I think it is rather annoying. It is insulting if a curse is directed at you, and all emphasis on feeling is lost because people do it all the time. Really, people can't seem to convey emotion without using them anymore, so it doesn't really emphasize anything anymore.

My mother tells me never to curse, and I'm 16. I can't even say "damn" around her. If she hears me say at least one foul word, I get grounded.

 

But for her, she curses every time around My 8 year old brother and 3 (soon to be 4) year old sister. Now she blames me for teaching them words?
