They build trust together, they are the only effective and well developed trio... yet they are being completely pushed aside for wave after wave of mediocre trios, simply for the sake of having more trios

I think Roxas crosses over into Olette, Hayner and Pence's group though. Just cause he had a past with Xion and Axel doesn't mean the friendships he developed after weren't real...

Which of the trios do you consider "mediocre"? I can't really think of any that devalue Donald and Goofy's involvement in KHI. They certainly aren't the only one's that are "effective" or "well developed"; Roxas, Xion, and Axel go through more character development in 358/2 Days than Sora does in the entire series. Terra, Aqua, and Ven failed as a trio, but through that failing they were effective at illustrating the importance of trust, friendship, and faith in one another.

 

I'm not discounting the Sora, Donald, Goofy trio. They were three individuals that joined forces two find their missing friends and became friends along the way. Repeating that union of circumstances beyond Kingdom Hearts 1 wouldn't have had as strong of an impact, or would've simply been telling a story already told. The erosion of their trio's importance was inevitable once their friendship had been established.

Roxas would cross over, but the friendship he formed with them was with their digital projections inside the fake Twilight Town, or fleeting moments in 358/2 Days. Technically that means their friendship wasn't real; that isn't to say that they wouldn't be friends if they met up. I agree that they won't fight though, I was only pointing out the consistency of the trio theme.

Right, I said it's a "conclusion". It's the last part of the Xehanort saga, and it would be poor writing to introduce significant, new character this late in the narrative. The players are set. We don't need any new characters for the conclusion of this story.

You don't see Axel and Lea roaming around together eating sea salt ice cream sitting and watching the sunset drop by the clocktower. Xion and Roxas were Sora's nobodies and returned back within him. I know my kh man lol.

if they do come back, this will create more confusion ( for me anyway) and leave me crazy. even when they put the time travel idea in 3d it made me nuts. tbh kh has a lot of plotholes that could screw anything up. regardless, im in love withe series.
