I've enjoyed most of the Final Fantasies I've played (III, IV, VI, VII, IX, X and Crisis Core), but now I'm trying to decide which one I should play next.  I loved Crisis Core; it's probably my favorite game of all time.  I also thoroughly enjoyed Final Fantasies VI and VII, along with the entire Kingdom Hearts saga.  I'm trying to decide which Final Fantasy I should try next.  I've been partly leaning towards getting Final Fantasy VIII, but I've heard so much negativity about the game that I'm not sure it's the best choice.  Does anyone here like it and, if so, do you think I will if I enjoyed VI and VII?  I seriously didn't care for Final Fantasy X, and have mixed feelings on IX.  III and IV were "good," but I didn't like them anywhere near as much as VI and VII.

My kid sister owns Dissidia 012 duodecim, so I've played a little bit of it.  It's actually great, but I was sort of looking to try a full-length FF as well.  Going to pick Dissidia back up, though!

Yeesh, I hate it when that happens.  I've yet to do it with games but I have done this with books.  I hated what the author did to a character so I didn't finish the book and/or series.

V has a fun job system and an upbeat, kinda humorous story.

Don't play Dissidia is you want to play another numbered title first, it'll spoil everything

I really suggest V, alongside Dracozombie. It has an occasionally humorous story and characters, with a nice villain, and definitely my personal BEST job system of the series.

 

After that I'd suggest I, its the classic and original, very simple and smooth story.

Or II, which has an awesome story, my favorite villain, a wonderful story, etc. All I don't like in II, is its leveling system. You don't level, but instead increase skill level with weapons and you have to take more damage to eventually gain more HP, I really hate that system, bit everything else in there is great.

4 Heroes of Light

I thought VIII was a very good game.  Of all of the Final Fantasy I've played, I'd say VIII was the most... poetic?  And I don't mean that in a bad way, either.  Poetic in the way that makes the story deeper than it otherwise would have been, with tiny details here and there that add into something very lovely.  If you liked VII, I think you'll like VIII.

 

So probably try it and decide for yourself.  It won't hurt anything? 

Play FF V! The best gameplay wise in the series! Story and humor is also better than in most of FF games! 

Yeah, I've actually heard Final Fantasy V is good.  I think I might try that next instead of VIII.  I'm just curious about VIII since it's been said to hold similarities to VII, but I've also heard it's either a game you'd hate or love.

 

Knowing me, I'll try them all eventually, so I'll just get one randomly to play first.  Thanks guys!

I enjoy FFVIII, i mean yeah, it's not the best game in the entire series but still, i believe it to be ONE of the best games in the entire series.

Oh, you should; it is one amazing game.  Probably my favorite out of every FF title, and that's saying something.
