March 13, 201312 yr Vanitas is one of my favorite villains. I could go on at length, but I think I'll just leave it at that.
March 13, 201312 yr Vanitas is probably one of the easiest boss battles in Kingdom Hearts And I really didn't care about him.. He is just talks big, but can't really do much by himself and I don't see too much 'badassery' about him. First he was cool, but he could have been so much better..
March 13, 201312 yr So, he breaks a stick... And then proceeds to lose to Aqua... And fails to kill Aqua again... He got Ventus to leave The Land of Departure. Putting him on the same villainous level as J Worthington Foulfellow from Pinocchio... Also, I wouldn't credit Vanitas's character with getting Ven to leave. Ven is powered exclusively on the plot railroad in this game. His motivations are whatever the game needs them to be. He would of killed Ventus, but Mickey intervened. And Two versus one is fair, right? Well, if he was as badass as everyone claims, then yeah, that wouldn't have been a problem. Also, he has ample time to try and fight Ven prior, but fails killing him. The unversed had Ventus pinned. And I'd say that's a big threat. They're still no Heartless.
March 13, 201312 yr Like most characters in BBS not named Xehanort, cool but unfortunately doesn't do much in the long run.
March 13, 201312 yr He's among one of the worst characters in the series. For someone who's supposed to be "badass," he manages to fail at every task that is given to him. He's beaten no less than three times during the game, not counting the final boss fights. In spite of being a "being of pure darkness," he kind of sucks at doing anything dark. Seriously, what does this guy do that's supposed to be evil? Spreading the Unversed? Yeah, because THOSE were a huge threat. Whenever he does show up, he mostly just talks a lot about all the things he plans on doing on a later day basis (and then proceeds to fail at those things). All together, he reminds of a guy who talks really loud about how bad and tough he is, while not actually having any merit to it. DUDE. READ THE FRIGGIN BACKSTORY. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR FRIGGIN MIND ABOUT HIM. Oh, and... HE EFFECTIVELY PUT THE HURT ON VENTUS EVEN AFTER HIS FRIGGIN DEATH.
March 13, 201312 yr I CANNOT STAND HIM!!! I hate him in human and spirit forms! I can't stand his personality! I felt better every time I beat him. He was not so hard in human and Ventus-Vanitas forms, but a major pain in the neck in spirit form. I just LOVE giving him a butt kicking. Now he might be the 13th darkness?! I CAN'T WAIT FOR HIS INFAMOUS END!

March 13, 201312 yr wow. Sounds like SOMEONE'S having a bad day. No, it's my feelings about him. I just hate him.
March 13, 201312 yr No, it's my feelings about him. I just hate him. Whaatever. *takes a sip of soda like a boss*
March 13, 201312 yr DUDE. READ THE FRIGGIN BACKSTORY. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR FRIGGIN MIND ABOUT HIM. Oh, and... HE EFFECTIVELY PUT THE HURT ON VENTUS EVEN AFTER HIS FRIGGIN DEATH. Since the novels aren't first tier canon they're to be taken with a grain of salt. Regardless Vanitas is a pretty ineffectual villain for the most part.
March 13, 201312 yr Vanitas is a truly epic villain, and one of my favorites of the Kingdom Hearts series. Not only is he evil, but he is lethal and cunning, and he knows how to get on people's nerves. I also feel bad for him because of all he had to go through. (I read an article about a novel that details on Vanitas's character, and it got my interest.) He suffered so much when his Unversed would be slain, which makes me like him more as a character. And he's a tough as hell boss when he's in Lingering Spirit form. For that, he earns my respect as one of the all time great Kingdom Hearts villains.
March 13, 201312 yr DUDE. READ THE FRIGGIN BACKSTORY. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR FRIGGIN MIND ABOUT HIM. Oh, and... HE EFFECTIVELY PUT THE HURT ON VENTUS EVEN AFTER HIS FRIGGIN DEATH. I've read his backstory and my opinion of him hasn't changed. First of all, not everyone gets a chance to read the novels, especially since the only English translation I know of is one translated by a hyper Vanitas yaoi fangirl who just feels soooo sowwy for him because he's such a Woobie! Supplementary material like the manga or the novels can be taken into consideration, but if they're not important enough to be put into the games or their Final Mixes, they don't carry much weight. Even so, it doesn't matter how (un)sympathetic Vanitas is--his only accomplishment is to indirectly give Sora the chance to be the hero by forcing Ventus to shatter his own heart and take place inside Sora's. Other than that, he accomplishes essentially nothing, at least nothing to the extent his supposed badassery should claim.
March 13, 201312 yr DUDE. READ THE FRIGGIN BACKSTORY. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR FRIGGIN MIND ABOUT HIM. Oh, and... HE EFFECTIVELY PUT THE HURT ON VENTUS EVEN AFTER HIS FRIGGIN DEATH. If important details about the character are not present within the story as it's being presented, they might as well have never happened.
March 14, 201312 yr I liked vanitas a bit (maybe just because he looks like sora but with black hair ) and he wasn't very challenging, once you had enough level you could beat him very easily

I liked that scene. And I'm probably not the only one, as they wouldn't have included it if they felt it didn't help Vanitas's character. As previously said, since he's a villain he's going to lose eventually. He would have killed her if he wasn't more concerned with forging the χ-blade. That was actually only meant to show that he didn't fail every task given to him. This doesn't make sense to me, as story is one of the most important elements in Kh. And with that logic you might as well say Master Xehanort didn't cause Terra to fall to darkness either. But it just sounds like you don't want to acknowledge anything Vanitas accomplished, so whatever you say. It seems like you just have a vendetta against Vanitas because so many people like him. And again, villains are supposed to lose. He didn't just try and fight Ventus, he beat him. And in that scene, he walks slowly to Ventus before deciding to fire Dark Firaga at him. But again, you just seem like a hipster. And Heartless are no Nobodies. But that's not that the point, you dismissed them as nothing when they were able to immobilize a main character in less than 5 seconds.

As previously said, since he's a villain he's going to lose eventually. It's not a matter of him losing in the end. It's a matter of him being un-threatening up to the point of his eventual defeat. A good villain should be constantly raising the stakes and make it imperative that the heroes defeat him. Vanitas never really has that going for him. This doesn't make sense to me, as story is one of the most important elements in Kh. And with that logic you might as well say Master Xehanort didn't cause Terra to fall to darkness either. He didn't. Terra is exactly the same person at the end of the story as he was at the beginning, personality-wise. The only reason he "falls to darkness" is because the plot required that Xehanort swap bodies with him, not because anything in the character has changed or led to this point. I've provided ample reasoning and rationale to indicate that my dissatisfaction with the character of Vanitas is based on more than contrariness. And Heartless are no Nobodies. But that's not that the point, you dismissed them as nothing when they were able to immobilize a main character in less than 5 seconds. The Heartless can destroy a world in a matter of minutes, and have done so on numerous occasions. When they go into a world, it's slated for destruction. The Unversed can pester people and cause mischief, but at best they're inconvenient, not threatening.

But I'm not sure if it's a difference of opinion, or Vanitas actually did nothing. And do you give credit to Vanitas for getting Ventus to go to the Keyblade Graveyard, or fighting him to save Aqua? Yeah, I see that now. True. Didn't the Cursed Coach kill Lady Tremaine though?
March 15, 201312 yr Vanitas is one of my favorite characters. He is one of, perhaps is, the best villains in the series. He is so delightfully twisted... and Haley Joel really sold the voice. I really hope he comes back.

And do you give credit to Vanitas for getting Ventus to go to the Keyblade Graveyard, or fighting him to save Aqua? Admittedly, it's been a while since I've gone through BBS, and a lot of my thoughts on the characters and plot come from my first playthrough. I ought to go through again and try to give it another look, and see if any thoughts I have change. Didn't the Cursed Coach kill Lady Tremaine though? True enough. (Also, I apologize if I ever come off as a bit harsh or blunt in conversation. I have a bad habit of not thinking my tone through when typing).

March 25, 201312 yr I find him boring. I know about his backstory which, I think, is great but inside of the game he's just boring. FOR THE EVULZ! I don't see anything "badass" in him.
Do you like him? Is he cool? Was he a challenging boss? Your thoughts!
