Are lesbians more accepted than gay men?

Featured Replies

1. If someone goes from straight to homosexual, they may have always been gay but to the people around they have changed and to OTHER people they have become gay.

2. I said AROUND HERE. Obviously, everyone would realise, that im saying where I come from thats how it is. It wasnt a personal thought, its just how it is where I come from. Do not take what I say out of context. You even said yourself you dont understand what im saying so dont take an opinion on it then.

Can anyone read? I said where I come from thats how it is, I never said thats how it is around the world.

Oh my bad then, but to your bullet #1, tell those people to get small education they need on this shit before they claim that the LGB have a "sexual orientation change".

Yes. Yes they are. like others have said, even with all the progress that's been made our society is still male-dominated and so the opinion of men is more commonly represented. Since lesbianism is fetishized by men and straight men are threatened by gay men lesbians are generally more well received in society. While women are more accepting of homosexuality in general than men their opinions are not as well represented as those of men.

Case in point. Look at how many openly gay female celebrities there are. Ellen DeGeneres, Rosy O'Donnell, Wanda Sikes and I believe Jillian Michaels, among others.

Now look at the number of openly gay male celebrities. Elton John is the only one that comes to my mind.

When a female celeb comes out, they get a talk show

When a male does, most often they quickly fade into obscurity.

Btw. I only counted living celebs, which is why Liberachi isn't up there

As far as female athletes coming out of the closet goes, I think it's almost expected for women with so-called "masculine interests"  like sports (Basketball, Soccer ect. Not so much for sports like Gymnastics) to be lesbians. The same way it's expected for say, male professional dancers to be gay.

In my country, the exact opposite happens.

Gay men are more accepted than gay women.

Why can't other countries/states be like my city, not caring whether someone is gay or not or basically anything at all really.

I feel like many men see lesbians as, "awwww yyyyyea this is hot", as opposed to seeing two gay men as sort of a threat to their masculinity (whoa, that's a real word? Apparently autocorrect says it is).

I would think that gay men are bullied more than lesbians.

Many people will probably disagree with me when I say this but...a lot of gay men are should I say, easier targets for rude people. At least where I live, you could never tell someone's sexuality just by looking at them. But a lot of gay guys are just so "out there" about it. I said a lot, not all. So the rude people who think homophobia is real (which it is not; it's just an excuse for someone to act like a complete firetrucking asshole for no apparent reason) are more likely to bully them for it. I have three homosexual uncles and one lesbian cousin. To be honest, I would never have known if they hadn't said anything about it! I don't know, I just think someone should keep their sexuality in the bedroom. I know I'm not one to talk, being asexual and all so what I say doesn't matter anyways.

Just know that, before Christianity, homosexuality in BOTH genders was almost NATURALLY accepted, writer about, and depicted in art, and even some myths! Thanks a lot, Jebus. =^o

I know, I was just trolling. :P

This isn't the time and place. If it were Random, fine. But this is Real Life News.

Sexuality is fluid. It's not set into black, grey and white. It's a full spectrum. If a "straight man" feels like experimenting by having sex or just dating another man, it doesn't mean he's necessarily gay. He might just want to experiment and see what he likes. In the end, he could turn out to be heterosexual, pansexual, homosexual, bisexual, ect. Or he might not care what label he defines as and that he'll just do whatever he pleases. Same thing with women and non binaries. Point is, sexuality isn't set in stone.

Man, people be so quick to metaphorically shoot others down.

I honesty don't agree with any "Gay" relationship. It's only natural though, for straight men at least, to see lesbians as "Hot"...

Asking around, i've found that most straight women do not find a gay relationship between two men as hot as men find a gay relationship between two women.

I've seen women, both lesbian and straight, who think of the act of being lesbian (or having lesbian sex at least) as seemingly almost a form of art.

I say this because when a lot of people hear the term "gay" they automatically think of the sex between the people.

It could be that people find sex between men to be more... Uh, explicit than lesbian sex. As lesbian sex being between two women, it could automatically make it seem more "Peaceful" than sex between two men.

I don't know though.

Why am I here...

That doesnt even make sense because couples of all types have the ability to have vanilla sex or kinky as hell sexsexuality does not make a couple more peaceful or explicit than another???

Whatever. You don't understand my point.

I'm not really sure if "accepted" is the appropriate term here. People seem to look on them with a far less negative light than with homosexual men, that much seems to be clear, but I'm also not convinced that's a good thing. First off, anywhere that deals with equal rights for homosexual people, it includes lesbians, not just gay men, so they're still no less fighting for those rights on that front. But in terms of how society doesn't view lesbians as harshly, I WISH I could say was because our society just thinks that anyone deserves to be together, including people of the same sex, but if that were the case, then there wouldn't even be such a major struggle for the LGBT community to get their rights. I personally think that lesbians are seen in a more positive light by society because people are just thinking "Two women making out = HOT." It's not that they're being seen as equal or they're getting better treatment so much as it's that society is sexualizing lesbian women.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Yep~

I like your answer :)

I think girls who willingly meet or have sexual intimacy in front of a crowd are welcomed by most men.  They obviously don't want to see the same from men, and with women a lot would be more composed (unless it's a hen do or birthday) on ogling people.  I think girls who act lesbian are more accepted, but women who are truly homosexual and don't do it for the attention of guys, rejecting their fantasy of a 3 way, get the same acceptance from people as gay men, whether that be little, bountiful or nothing at all.

That's really sad. Everyone should be accepted equally :)
