With all the 'IVs and EVs' of Pokémon...

Posted

And also with all the OUs, NUs, RUs...

Am I the only thinking we're just missing out on how we used our FAVORITE Pokémon or the ONES WHICH LOOKED COOL in battle? ANY battle for the fact.

I dunno, many Pokémon players I see today are more like, "Dude I'm EV training this Pokémon, it's also an Uberwhatever pokémon and...."

And I'm the only who's, "I dunno, I'm just levelling up to beat the shit out of that Gym Leader and my Metapod isnt evolving yet"

I feel so stupid when someone brings up those and look at me like I've never played Pokémon ;;

I just play Pokemon to have fun. I don't care about having awesome moves or Pokemon. In fact, I usually play with my favorites. Even the ones people say suck coughflareoncough. The game is meant for fun so I use it that way.

When I was in community college, I knew a group of competitive Pokemon players.  They got me interested in it, but the meta game was all too technical for me and I couldn't invest into it.  I still kinda sorta pay attention to things like EVs and natures, but I'm not interested in competitive play.  Just give me my Pokeymans, man.

i actually got into this discussion with some friends at school we were talking about evs and ivs and then ended that part of our pokemon conversation with "i don't play competitively i only play on my own so i don't even care about those lol"

I usually don't EV train 'til I've battled the in-game trainers and beaten the game. There's really no need to during your main adventure, unless you're playing competively. Of course, the Pokemon in the battle facillities (Battle Tower/Frontier/Subway) are EV/IV trained at a certain point, so it makes it easier to win there if you are too. I never IV train though, it gets too luck based and complex, and I just don't feel like its worth the little edge since I really don't battle competitively. But yeah, having fun is top priority and using only Pokemon deemed strong by the metagame is boring.

Competitive Pokémon has been around since forever, it's just been more prominent lately with the introduction of Wi-Fi etc.

Just some stuff from G1/2/3:

Azure Heights

Jolt135's massive document on RBYGSC

Netbattle (oh man was that a hoot)

Used to visit Smogon waaaaaaaaaaaay back in its baby days (we're talking pre-G4, or at least pre-G4 English), it was pretty much Pokémon!4chan. Like so ...

I'm in the middle, I EV train and get good IV's on my favorite's, like Arcanine.

Its deceptively complex.

I always play Pokemon for fun, because I can barely understand how to properly EV and IV train my Pokemon

EV and IV are  cool concepts but strategy is what really matters

I love competitive battleing, because mainly I'm a competitive person, but I also like using the Pokémon I love.

Which is a problem, since I love every Pokémon. I still use Flareon in competitive battles because I love her. xD

IKR? I'm not the type of person who ladders (rank stuff) on PS. I get no satisfaction if I try that way, so I try using some favorites.

I learned about EVs and IVs via Marriland forums when it was at its prime. Then came Smogon where I learned strategies and the marvelous (and tedious) RNG. Moved on to other stuff as no one IRL gave any damns about my work. (Pokegen says hi) At least they know I battled good. *end mini-rant*
