Well, it was different with Sora and Riku, it was for story reasons. But then again, there's always Sora beating up every disney villain, and Donald and Goofy always alongside him beating them up, lol. But i guess they didn't want crap like Cinderella and Belle bitch slapping each other, lol.

Still that counts as fighting.........though I wanna see Cinderella bitch slapping the shit out of Belle.....that'd be hilarious

That doesn't necessarily mean all five will be from the ballot. I'm sure Sakurai has other DLC characters in mind, too. For example, I'm pretty sure he'll bring Wolf back to round out the popular characters who were cut (Roy Koopa kinda took the thunder from FE Roy and that would make three Marths if he returns, Ice Climbers can't because of the 3DS, Snake seems to be gone for good since Sakurai could have easily brought him back, and I've never seen people really beg for Pichu or Young Link). I'm kind of expecting one from the ballot, but 3 or so would be cool.

i know this is a sensitive topic but i really wanted to hear what you guys have t say about it.

i ask that this conversation be civil. ive seen many topics on other forums where this topic turn into anger rather than an actual debate. with that said, i hope this can be discussed in a civil manner without anger and only the interest to better the other persons understanding of the situation, and persuading them to think otherwise, rather than insulting them for what they think (there is a difference as im sure was obvios)

 

i have heard the other side of this arguement, and i want to agree with it.

 

we all know the concept of overpowered characters. characters that are inherintly stronger than other characters and are in deed able to be beaten, but it takes more skill than it does beating other characters. i can see this. the most recent occurence of this is in diddy kong. now one might say that people should just forget about this kind of thing and just enjoy the game. play it however you would like to. i agree with this. however when it comes to competition, i feel this is invalid. when people are just aiming to have fun, i agree. however, competition is different. it has to have something. equality in opportunity. when someone plays a character that is inherintly stronger than the character it is facing, you no longer have that. yes, its still possible to beat them, however it requires more skill  than it would fighting a character that has an equal matchup. as long as 1 fighter has to put more effort into the match in order to win than the other fighter, i dont think that is a very good thing for a game that is played competitavly. many would argue that diddy kong is a prime example. he is very possible to beat, however it requires more skill than if you were fighting a character that is equal in terms of fighting ability. while more sever, its like this situation. imagine someone bringing a rusted sword to a sword fight, while the opponent has a freshly sharpened and forged sword with the ability to repair itself to perfect condition durring battle if it gets damaged in any way. that example is FAR more severe however its the same concept. the one with the rusted sword can win, however it requires far more skill and mastery than it would the fighter with the perfect sword. so long as this concept exists in a fighting game, i cant help but consider it a flaw because i expect something competative to have equality in opportunity and this concept seems to undermine that.

 

even though some competative games have this however, i am not going to say its a bad competative game. i love smash bros either way and will play it whether or not it has this issue. im just saying that i consider it a flaw in an otherwise amazing game.

 

well, thats all i have to say. i really do want to think otherwise so i ask you guys to bring points to the table disproving my statements so that i can see other side and drop what i consider a flaw.

Honestly, I've long since lost interest in Smash Bros as a competitive thing for exactly the reason that there's really only a handful of characters you can use, whether you actually like them or not. It kind of defeats the purpose of a game where the novelty derives from choosing the characters whom you love if it punishes you for choosing the characters that you love.

thats something ive actually been thinking as well. its just that i reall wanted it to be competative. but what you said has always been in the back of my head. thats actually the reason i decided to make that post. to see if there was any point that would be brought to mind that would save smash as a competative game. porhaps it ws wishful thinking. maybe character balences is the only way to posibly make it competative. dont get me wrong. i still think it ca be a competative game. just not one without its flaws (regarding competative viability) but i digress. thx for responding

So yesterday, I was playing with some friends at the library. Normally, I can easily take the most of them. Two of them chose Captain Falcon, one just spams while the other is actually good. The biggest problem was that when it was just us 3, they teamed up on me completely unfair in a FFA. I was quite frustrated by that. I've decided I'm better off playing with people who actually know how to play the game fairly online

Why do people want King R.rool playable? He been highly requested in due to polls, by why? What is his moveset gonna be anyway? We know he's gonna a heavy fighter. People are not gonna use him a lot due to him being a heavy character. So, what's the use voting for him?

donkey kong is already a big character. king k rool is like twice his size in country. how are they gonna make that work? sakurai doesent want to shrink characters (like he stated with ridely) so if king k rool gets accepted he would probably be the biggest target in the game. for that reason i dont think he will get in.

Speaking for myself, I like playing as heavy characters, moreso than lighter characters. I like heavy hitting and the stability to stay in the ring. And since the only heavy characters we really have are Bowser and Dedede (sometimes DK, though he's kind of lighter in comparison now), having some more variety would be great. 

 

His moveset could take inspiration from his boss fights in Donkey Kong Country. Regular B could use the blunderbuss, Forward B could do a crown through / charge combo, Up B could have his propeller pop up from when he was Kaos, and Down B could be his butt pounds. Actually, if they wanted to go further with it, they could make his moveset more complex, like how, in his boss fights, he keeps changing up his attacks. Like charging the B would change the trajectory of the blunderbuss bullet, or if holding Down B made him do three consecutive bounces (but would also run into the danger of having him jump off the edge).

at most 3 or 4 characters will be from the ballot.....the other 2 or 1 slot would be characters that Nintendo would announce in upcoming directs.

It's been two weeks now, but I got Smash Bros. Wii U now. Whenever it is that my brother brings his (broken) GamePad over from his mom's, I'll be able to register an ID and play online.

 

It's been a while since I came here. I don't know who to vote for to be in Smash (my only option would be Sora, but that's highly unlikely). I just don't know too many great iconic characters in Nintendo's lifetime that aren't already in Smash.

The previous patches did fix stuff like the Bowser suicide so I feel Diddy is gonna be nerfed......if anything the patch might only affect Diddy

yeah. maybe ur right. it was the only balancing peoblem that REALLY got noticed. (aside from that whole pac-man debocle) and sakurai said that he would only fix glaring issues. so maybe. still. balancing is balancing

While he might get patched....it's kind funny that it took people months to see if Diddy is powerful or not

 

 

And speaking of this.....people never complained about how Melee Fox is so unbelievably broken in Melee yet here Diddy is the apocalypse?

yeah. i think the only time people complained about melee was when it was new or in the mid 2000s. i think all the steam has been blown off by now tho. maybe thats why we dont really hear it. but i do think people still complained about melee. just not nearly as much. and this is just a theory, but maybe people are really gettting on diddy is cus patches exist now. still, it is hippocritical if people are judging diddy and leaving melee fox alone.

yeah. seems like that. i guess thats why many competators play as fox. which is why seeing stuff like this:

and yeah. rosalina is harder when you face a good one online. i get the feeling thats its because she requires time put in to get good as and gives great results, wheras i think there are people who just want easy wins and for some reason have the stupid mindset of "if i just spam the hoo-ha then its be easy!" lol rosalina is an amazing character when you get usd to her. like shulk or even villager.
