At least it helps if you opened up a lot of Youtube videos in different tabs and you forgot to pause one of them. Now you can quickly identify the problem tab.

This "Play" icon represents when a video is currently playing. It disappears if you pause the video.

its for if you are in a different tab, many people use youtube for music playlists

I have Chrome but haven't noticed this. Still, there are things much worse on the site, the Homepage and channel designs are full of suck.
