What does it feel like to be in love?

Posted

So, among the many philosophical ramblings and inquiries running rampant through my mind, a new one bounced to the front of my skull today. What does it feel like to be in love? Sure, I understand what it feels like to love your family and your pets (because pets are family gosh dang-it), but what does it feel like to be in love with somebody who doesn't fall into that category? Somebody that you would date, and dare-I-say marry? I know that there are some members here who are dating (and some that are married, I believe), so I wanted to present this question to you all, to satisfy my own curiosity more than anything else (though I think this could be an interesting discussion as well).

So, what does it feel like to be in love? How would you describe it? Maybe you haven't actually been in love, but you think you know what it feels like? Or perhaps you, like me, simply want to know? Just give me anything you can think of to share, I'm ready to listen (or read, rather) and learn!

*Side note to fellow mods: I believe there is an older thread asking "What is love?" or something like that, but I think this topic is different enough to have its own thread. If you disagree, though, please do with this as you see fit.*

'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticule, and together, achieving a singular purpose against statistically long odds.

So what you're saying is...shawty wanna smush.

Wish I knew. Right now, my love life is confusing. I am unsure of my feelings for two girls and it's giving me a headache.

I don't know if what I feel is 'love' but the way I told my friends about the feeling they tell me it is love, so my explanation:

Love is... Love is a tremendous fire, a forest fire that blazes the soul, burns the earthen heart, rocks the mind and drives your brain to a copasetic insanity. Love is the sensation of forgetting all pain that you knew from a word of their mouth or a strike at the keys. Love is the inability to remember a feeling before she or he or ze or zer or any gender identification entered your life. Love is the constant worry that comes from the inability to hear from someone and know that there OK. It's the wish to just lie in their arms for the rest of your life, not knowing or wishing to know anything but their warm embrace. It spurrs people into action, makes art, causes sadness and longing. In short, love is an unexplainable feeling in small words, but its the feeling that you get that is like no other. It feels like hate, yet you lack animosity to the person, in a sense.

I really wanna know too, I have a girlfriend, but I wouldn't say i'm in love with her yet. I think though that love would kinda feel like infatuation. Like when I am with my girfriend I am just generally happy. Its not even what we say or what we are doing, just being right next to her, embracing her, or holding her hand makes me feel really happy with like the butterflies in my stomach thing lol.

Sorry if that doesnt exactly help lol

It's like being addicted to drugs in a nutshell.

Pain and Joy with a dash of WTFBBQ crazy thrown in.

And that's me being serious.

Well I don't really know what it's like to be in love, but I did have unusually strong feelings for a girl in my high school (unusual because i knew little to nothing about her, but still seemed to really like her)I'm not gonna say i was in love because, when you're in love, you know a lot of things about that person and those characteristics attract you to her even more(She's funny, caring, has been strong through tough times, etc.)

Since that's the closest I've ever come to being in love, here's what i think it could be like:It's just, well kinda like a crush, you keep thinking about her- all...the...firetrucking...time.You get reckless and do things that border close to autism just because you think it might amuse her.You fail your firetrucking chemistry mid-term because you can hear her talking outside and her voice keeps taking away your focus, until out of desperation you manage to get someone to close the window..You start blushing when someone even talks to you about her(though i think this falls into more of a "crush" category) or if she's within a 3-foot radiusThe day she greets you and actually looks somewhat happy to see you becomes one of your most precious memories. This is the best i could put

Love is not going to the hospital to silence the survivors.

In my opinion, love is a strong and powerful connection that makes life seem easier and makes obstacles seem less difficult to overcome. I can tell you from experience since I'm currently in a relationship with my dear Inori, and let me tell you that love is the most wonderful feeling in the world. It makes you push your boundaries and makes you feel more confident about yourself, and being in love brings so much happiness. Sure, bad things may happen, but that's all a part of the experience. You learn from the things you experience with your true love, and that, in turn, provides you with wisdom and maturity. As RoxSox has stated above me, love has no exact meaning, because it could mean many things, but in my opinion, love is the connection that strengthens your heart and allows you to do the impossible. (Yes, being in a relationship with my darling Inori inspires me to write this. <3 ) :)

It's like someones got a tight grasp on your heart, and they hold the power to tighten their grip and cause pain throughout your body, and the power to hold it gentle and yano

Not cause pain.

Love is happiness and excitement

Love is commitment

Love is respect

Love is pain

Love is forgiveness

The are many different facets to what love is and it's usually hard to explain unless you experience it .

Well love is...There's so any defintions that it's impossible really to define.

But I'd say,

Love is when you look at that person and they're the only person who is keeping you on the ground.

It's looking into their eyes, and feeling an unexplainable connection. It's where you'd do anything, anything AT ALL, just to see them smile, and where

one tear they shed can break your heart. Love is having someone memorized, knowing how they move, the way they walk. You hear them speak in your head even when they're not there. You can hear them laugh, and they keep replaying over and over in your head. It's where you want to hold them, and feel their warmth. You want to know their birthday, their favorite color, likes and dislikes. They can be so STUPID sometimes (lol) and they can kill you with just a few words, but you can also be saved with just a few words from them. They can frustrate you, and sometimes you think you hate them, but no matter what, you still love them.

Because you wouldn't give them up for the world. Except, sometimes you DO have to give them up, because they might love someone else. And for some reason you're okay with that, because as long as they're happy, you're happy. Even if it hurts, if they're smiling, you choose to manage.

And that is my long definition on what love is.

I think what love feels like and means varies from person to person. I don't think there's one solid definition for what love is.

Yeah, I'd agree with you there. But I still find it interesting to read how different people describe it.

I really like reading all your comments. I won't pretend that I understand love, but I think I'm getting an idea what it is like. :)
