Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai has praised Square Enix’s Lightning Returns in his semi-weekly column in Weekly Famitsu. The Final Fantasy XIII saga has received some flack from traditional Final Fantasy fans, but Sakurai was noticeably impressed by the game and praised the evolution of the ATB system. Sakurai concluded by saying that it’s nice to pick up a game and throughly enjoy it.

 

 

 

 

I was amazed at how, even under the limitations of there being only one party member [in Lightning Returns], [the ATB system] has evolved.”

“It’s easy to pick up an already released game and simply enjoy it, but in order to generate entertainment, you need to keep your eyes peeled.”I was reminded that if you take what seems natural for granted, nothing will evolve or change for the better.”

I can not explain how much I love Sakurai's last statement.

Maybe Lightnig could be a guest character in super smash bros? Even though final fantasy 13 wasn't on a Nintendo system; I think it would be cool to have her on the game for the lack of it not being on a Nintendo system.

Well Snake barely had any games on Nintendo's systems aside from the port of the MSX Metal Gear game on NES,the gameboy color Metal Gear games,the MGS1 remake on Gamecube and MGS3 port on the 3DS.......yet he still appeared in Brawl 

 

Though I prefer Cloud or Cecil over Lightning to be in Smash Bros,if Toriyama begged Sakurai enough times he might add Lightning

I would really like Lightning to be in Smash Bros. But if anyone is going to be in a Smash Bros game from Square Enix it would be Sora. Disney would be a great step of the Nintendo and Disney relationship.

Most likely it would be a Black Mage,Cecil,Onion Knight/Luneth,Firion,Bartz or Terra.

I honestly enjoyed the demo but I need to play the game myself to fully judge it

Plus Lightning appear in both Thearythm, and Thearythm Curtain Close which are both for the 3DS so that lets Lightning be on a Nintendo system.

Heck Cloud from FFVII can be included in Smash Bros just out of sheer popularity since Cloud was considered a mascot for Square for a long time since FFVII

That's jumping to conclusions. Every character on the SB roster is supposed to have appeared on a Nintendo system at least once.

No,that was a false rumor

Well yes, if anyone, Sora would be the most likely Square candidate, since he's the latest Square character who has appeared on at least 3 different generations of Nintendo consoles. But if I had to guess for Final Fantasy, it would have to be the characters that did appear on Nintendo consoles, as well as be extremely popular. Cloud would have made it if they didn't bail on porting VII to NES, but it's not like Nintendo get's as much mainstream action as Sony and Microsoft do these days.

 

Still, with their long history together, I would at least expect some sort of nod to Final Fantasy in one of these SB titles.
