Everyone I've asked said they don't really care for him. That he was an annoying character blah blah blah. I'm not too fond of him myself but I was wondering, is there anyone out there who is? 

I preferred Even, he actually raised Ienzo with the other researchers and helped Ven out

Yes.Two replicas of other people, one of which grew her own personality (Repliku had the same personality as KH1 Riku), and then like 40 something replicas of his own?He's a genius.

I like Vexen actually and I'm not sure why people dislike him so much.

 

If you really look at Vexen as a character (and really, there's little to no difference from him to Even) he's pretty interesting. He wasn't a traitor, he simply wanted to do research. He's arrogant and considers himself to be the smartest of the Organization, yet he's the kind of intelligent person who wants to teach you to be better. Not for your own benefit, of course, but simply to catch you up closer to his level. He's basically the most asshole-ish science teacher you could have. Not to mention that he's the only one of the Organization, apparently, who could even create the Replicas.

 

Compare him to, say, Zexion - whom has a far larger following than Vexen - who doesn't want to better you. He simply expects you to BE better, and if you're not, then you're not worth his time. He's way more of a jerk than Vexen is, yet he's got a bigger fanbase. Personally, I think it's a fashion contest. Zexion is prettier (even though all of the KH characters have no blemishes whatsoever) so he gets top bid.

 

Though if any Organization member is underrated, it's Xaldin. Wolverine's Nobody never seems to be invited to the good parties.

As much as I want to say yes, I'm pretty neutral towards him. But if I had to lean to either side, I'd choose the positive side, because I kind of want to like him and I can't bring myself to dislike him. Yes, it's complicated. 

I kinda like Vexen if only for the behind the scene stuff Xemnas planned for him to do in 3582 Days

 

He's the one who created Xion under Xemnas's orders without Xemnas telling any other member except Xigbar about it, and Riku-Replica 

I always compared him to the likes of Hojo's character from Final Fantasy VII. Kinda like Axel and Reno. Anyone else make that connection?

I'm neutral to the man; my brother likes him though.

Vexen's my favorite Organization member.

I like Vexen. His death was one of the greatest and most awesome.

His existence didn't bother me.  I felt sorry for him when he died

I like him. Not as much as more prominent characters like Sora, Roxas, Axel, etc., but I still liked him. I mean, who doesn't love the crazed (yet sometimes not so crazed?) scientist archetype!? They're practically in every big anime, I'm pretty sure their personalities make them popular. I've been watching Bleach lately, and I find myself intrigued by the character Mayuri, purely because of how much he reminds me of Vexen...if Vexen decided to loose most of his sanity and apply face makeup (ironically though Vexen shares a voice actor with Uryu, who is usually at odds with Mayuri...huh). But then again, a lot of things about that anime gives me Organization XIII vibes, so it comes as no surprise with me.

I like his character but his boss fights in CoM/Re:CoM...screw him!!

Meh, I thought of him of just being there. I never payed too much attention to him. I hated his boss fight though, and his death scene was cool ("Goodbye *Snaps fingers and Vexen erupts into flames*")
