Nintendo prevents same-sex marriage in new 3DS game

It's not like it has to be a problem. Oh no, Nintendo didn't include same-sex relationships! So? Many other simulation games similar to Tomodachi Life dun allow it, but I dun see people having problems there. I've no problem if someone is gay or bisexual. But just because said person is either-or, doesn't give them the right to wave the Gay Rights flag at every stupid little thing.

It's a 2014 video game, same-sex marriages should be included as the norm. If you choose to include relationships in your video game it seems stupid to not include same-sex marriages.

I honestly have no clue as to why NoA removed something like this. Sure it was an accidental feature or a bug in the Japanese version, but they didn't patch it to avoid such a thing as this. Nintendo never intentionally put it in. Maybe it's to avoid controversy or sticky situations. Maybe it's just not a thought that appears at the time of development. However, it pisses me off to no end that some people wave the Gay Rights flag as if they deserve to be treated higher than an equal amount among others. I treat you as you treat me, do not demand anything more or less. Yes, sometimes things need to be brought up and resolved, but the small things such as this shouldn't be the biggest worry right now.

I don't think any gay people think they "deserve to be treated higher than an equal amount among other things". I'm pretty sure they just want to be treated equally.

If only that were true...I know few too many who do the former. It's not like everyone does it, but it's irritating no matter who you are, when you obnoxiously demand something. Maybe being more reasonable would be a better way of looking at things instead of bashing Nintendo for one little thing. That's what I get from the article at least. If it doesn't have gay, it's anti-gay and so is the group or organization behind it. That's how they sound here. They could never be more wrong...

I think the outrage is only bigger because of Nintendo's reason.

I don't think people should be all agro about it, but it would be nice if you could have a relationship with whatever NPC you want, like in fable.

I want a same-sex marriage only game. That would be incredible.

Why? Because the population of homosexuals pales in comparison to hetero. It wouldn't sell all that well.

Nintendo wouldn't want to do it because its simply a fact that heterosexuality leads to reproduction and in the game if it had gay couples it would have to explain why they couldn't have babies.

Implying all heterosexual couples want that or that they would put that in a kids game

Starting to miss tumblr, why, i'd have an army of social justice supporters by now

You kind of missed the whole point there. It wasn't ever about reproduction. It was about just being able to have same-sex couples in the game. The fact that a PR from NoA had to come out and talk about it tells me there are still people out there who aren't accepting of same-sex couples and it isn't even Nintendo pushing out their own feelings toward the matter. The Japanese version didn't even mean to include it, but when Nintendo patched it, they only made it seem like a best friends thing even though the characters would pretty much do everything a relationship held in the game. They didn't patch much else of it.

The problem though, is the fact that some people will go to hell and back just to make an unreasonable fuss about a small feature. If they could be more reasonable about the topic it'd sound better. Don't get me wrong, I understand it's a disappointing thing to hear from Nintendo, but just to cause an outrage over it is unnecessary.

I'm heterosexual and I would like to play that. It doesn't need to be by Nintendo. It would be a way to balance out with the heterosexual only games out there. But I think it would sell. If a game about dating pigeons can become popular then so can this.DONT SQUASH MY DREAMS!

Your miis better check their privilege.

*dramatic GASP*  But... but Nintendo is wholesome and family friendly and shouldn't poison the corruptible minds of our youth with teh gayz!!1  Oh my god a guy and a guy holding hands!  MY VIRGIN EYES!

But seriously, it's one thing to want to avoid inevitable political scandals because dudes kissing is such an apocalyptic event for some reason.  It's another to put that kind of bullshit reasoning to justify why they're doing it.

Still disappointed by this they just lost out on a sale. I'm bisexual and I find this hurtful

It's a feature that wasn't even there when they got their hands on it. The game was basically translated to English and is being released in just 3 weeks. It's already completed, and has been before Nintendo made their comments. The comment may be hurtful, but the exclusion of the feature is nothing greater than disappointing.
