Pokémon Delta Emerald trademarked in Japan

Posted

Nintendo has filed a trademark for Pokemon Delta Emerald in Japan, leading to speculation the old GBA title could be next in line for a remake.

Gematsu reports that the trademark was submitted earlier this month but only went public today. Seeing as we recently heard about Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Pokemon Omega Ruby, remastered versions of the GBA classics, it would make sense that their follow-up title wouldn't be far behind.

Pokemon Emerald originally came west back in 2005, and is set in the region of Hoenn. If Delta Emerald comes to pass, it'll mark a step forward in Nintendo's Poke-remake activities.

When the company decided to re-release the original two titles as Pokemon Fire Red and Pokemon Leaf Green, the decision was made not to give Pokemon Yellow the same treatment. Similarly, when the next two titles resurfaced as Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver, the updated Pokemon Crystal was left out.

Will Delta Emerald be the title to buck this trend and, if so, should we expect to see it alongside Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby later this year, or will the customary gap between the initial two games and their solo-standing follow-up be maintained? Time will tell.

Thanks to IGN.

Please don't do it Nintendo...

Another remake of the third generation? That's stupid.

This is why I don't go to IGN for news, meanwhile..."A new trademark has been discovered as being registered by Nintendo, GameFreak and Creatures Inc. in Japan. This trademark is for デルタエメラルド Delta Emerald. In addition to this, in the US, at the same time as the Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire domains were registered, one was registered for Pokémon Delta Emerald. This trademark registration is not likely to be indicative of a game release, but rather covering bases in a similar manner to the registration of Pokémon Water Blue back in 2004 and numerous other Pokémon names over the past 10 years including Pokémon Grey. We'll bring more as it comes." -SerebiiCase closed.

"not likely"

Still that possibility. I hope Serebii is right, but there's still no definitive answer either way on the subject.

Case open until Nintendo says otherwise.

And yet Nintendo or TCPi never said anything regards to the previous trademarks registered. GL waiting on them lol. Safe to say there isn't going to be a Emerald remake. Besides, remakes like HGSS retain the stuff from their 3rd installment. (Crystal in HGSS' case) Why would they make a remake of something that technically did get one?

Oh, I agree it makes no sense. Just saying unless Nintendo come out and say it means nothing there's always that possibly they'll use that title for something some day.

I say, don't do it.

When Leaf Green and Fire Red was made, there was no Yellow Remake.

When Heart Gold and Soul Silver was made, there was no Crystal Remake.

And now we have Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby coming in November 2014 worldwide.

I just believe there is no need for the "third" game (or games) being in the remakes.

Reason why I say that is, because there were a lot of things we couldn't do (didn't exist) in the original. (Like: Pokeathlon in Soul Silver and Heart Gold for example.)

I just believe whatever you were able to do in Emerald (I only have Sapphire btw), you can't do in Ruby and Sapphire, it might be added in Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby.

I'm actually all for an emerald remake! As long as it comes out after omega ruby and alpha sapphire. But as long as that happens then MY BODY IS READY!

I don't really want an Emerald Remake.

But if they do make it, then Delta Emerald is the way to go.

It's not going to happen. : Water Blue was trademarked, but they went nowhere with that. This is probably being done for the same reason as WB.

lol in still seeing people not get the point that ORAS is RSE remakes. It's like if back when HGSS was being released, we ask for a Crystal remake when the only difference would be the name and box art.

Unless Delta Emerald would be a remake, but for the Wii U, but would still be stupid. (If anything, Stadium remake pls)

Edit: Another minor difference would be the available Pokemon, but ehh it wouldn't be enough to push customers to buy all 3. (We got bank and GTS to compensate.)

Delta Emerald would be a remake, but for the Wii U.

^This at 100%

Same gameplay system and Pokemon list (maybe?) but with a more complex story of the version+ better graphics and animations and the Extra battle modes that regulary a non-portable version gives.

Dunno that would sound nice enoght to me

I'm pretty sure this isn't coming to existence like Pokémon Grey and Water Blue.

And if it is, then alright then, but then Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will have major differences between Delta Emerald, like the original RSE.

I am not a huge Pokemon fan, but isn't Emerald suppose to be the game that has all the contents of both Sapphire and Ruby?

If so wouldn't people just tend to get Delta Emerald since it has everything in both games and the company would decrease in gaining money?

I think having Delta Emerald is a wrong idea since Omega and Alpha are just the latest for now, but having it later wouldn't be bad.

It's a possibility, but Nintendo tends to trademark speculated Pokemon game names to prevent anyone using it, like Pokemon Grey. Delta Emerald is the name most fans have been using for their fanmade works, like box art, so they could just be trademarking it for that. But they could still make an Emerald game. I find it unlikely though, I doubt they'd want to stay in Gen 6 for that long and it'd be weird to have Ruby and Sapphire in Gen 6 with Emerald all the way in 7.
