Why do some people hate other people's opinions?

Posted

I noticed this on social sites like this one and I wonder what's causing people to do this. In my opinion I think it's because some people fear other people's opinions. I do that sometimes and I know how it feels to see a person disagree with their opinion.

I see this as two separate issues actually. I would say in general, people don't hate other people's opinions. For instance, I don't like Twilight. In a debate, I would have a strong argument against liking Twilight. But in the end, it's just an opinion versus an opinion. While I'd be annoyed that someone actually liked Twilight, it's not my place to hate them for it. Everyone likes and thinks different things. I think most people just strongly disagree (which can be mistaken for hatred) in most cases.

Now when we're talking actual /hatred/, although that's a rather strong word, I think we've moved out of the realm of opinions. When it comes to basic human rights? I definitely hate the ""opinions"" of people who oppose them. I put opinions in quotation marks because deciding whether or not someone else deserves basic human rights is not a place where an ""opinion"" belongs - they are rights all humans inherently deserve. I feel the same way with the evolution/creationism debate. If someone believes in creationism then that's fine, if that's what makes them happy. That's their opinion and they are perfectly entitled to it. I hate the ""opinions"" of those who want to force prayer and the teaching of creationism in schools, because it's essentially brainwashing children into becoming Christians. At this point, yes, I do hate the opinions of the people saying them. However, when people's lives and learning are at stake, I think it's often okay to hate the opinions of people trying to perpetuate issues in society. (But let me make a strong distinction here: the opinions of people saying such things are okay to hate - it is not okay, at least to me, to hate the people who harbor them.)

I agree with you. If their opinion makes them happy i'll leave them alone, but if the opinion is stupid or doesn't make any sense I will try to change their prospective of things.

Maybe you need to accept that histories past will show plenty of cases where it shows the opposite happen,I have had arguments with way too many people and have seen many perspectives change, including my own,so the thought of that I just cant fathom.

I think that people have to change their perspectives in life because it's the only way they will survive this world. I had to change my opinion about doing my work at school or not last year and if I didn't change it soon I would really suffer the consequences in the future.

Because some people are wrong, and their opinions define their entire character and if I disagree with one of their opinions on a highly subjective and inconsequential issue, then they just DON'T DESERVE TO EXIST.

If for example, someone says Kairi's hair is blue, that's not true and i'm going to get the evidence to back it up

Some opinions are unfounded and incorrect, especially when evidence suggests the opposite of what they're saying.

You can have whatever opinion you want, but if you're wrong then you're wrong.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. We can't say that zeldaU is a Twilight Princess 2 yet because it's not a fact. If it's not a fact then it's a false statement. That is why people like me have to keep correcting people if the statement they said is a fact or not a fact.

The honest truth is, they want attention to themselves so they pick a fight for no reason.

Because they disagree and can't be mature enough.

Some people think that anonymity gives them the right to say whatever they want and equate "debate" with "argument. Some people are extremely sensitive and perceive an verbal attack where none was intended.

These people need to either keep in mind that the internet is a place for people to express their opinions and that they have just as much right to theirs and all opinions should be respected. If they can't do that, then maybe they should get ff the internet. Unfortunately, the internet also seems like a place for people to act like idiots on the You Tubez and other places so you get these people.

And some people just like to piss others off.

There's a stigma around being wrong. A wrong opinion can lead to many places. Some people will make fun of you for holding the wrong opinion, and some will think of you as lesser and stupid for it.

In general, though, opinions tend to clash easily. People can share them, but when someone has a different opinion, a lot of people rush in to state their own and then a war of sorts breaks out.

cuz some people are doodyheads, plain and simple.

because people are people and they are bound to disagree due to human nature. you can be right. you can be wrong. people will still disagree with you or put your opinions down (if its and opinion there is no right or wrong, just a matter of personal beliefs and/or ethics).

Oh, and there's also how a good number of opinions are founded on willful ignorance or just plain stupidity.  And it's disgusting how there are so many people who refuse to change because they're oblivious to the damage having such an "opinion" can cause other people--because god forbid your precious opinion is so important just because it belongs to you.

From personal experience, I've found that a lot of people(myself included) usually will get angry over opinions that seem uninformed or opinions that challenge your opinion when you are really passionate about the subject that your opinion involves. When someone disagrees with you on a subject that you care a lot about, it can feel like they're personally attacking you or judging you. That doesn't feel good and it can cause people to lash out in defense when that's not always a necessary response.

People always change their perspectives of life, and not always for the better.

Which is not a good idea; people can get very aggressive and/or violent should you try to change their opinion on something. Besides, what's wrong with not making any sense? That's fine if its intentional.

This is what government is all about.

Give me a break. Sorry, but I find governments unreliable, and it would be ironic for them to help when they have heated perspective arguments themselves.

I'm only going to do that to a person only if he/she believes in a false statement.

These are YOUR opinions not mine and I knew that people always change their perspectives of life it was MY opinion.
