Can anyone explain the time travel thingy?

Posted

Young master Xehanort gave me an explaination, but i didn't quite understand it. So, as complicated as this sounds can someone break down/give me a simple explanation of the rules of time travel in the Kingdom Hearts universe?

Ok, here's my go. First, You must leave your body behind. This means that when you are time travelling, you have to leave your body behind, and leave it defenseless.

Second, there must be a version of you waiting at the destination. This basically means that, at least from my understanding, that when you go back in time there has to be a version of yourself waiting at where you want to go. Third, Upon arrival, you can only move forward as per the laws of time. This means that when you are at the time you wish to be in, you can't go back any more, you have to go forward in time. 5, and the most important to me, And you cannot rewrite the events that are destined to happen. This basically means that you can not change events which would impact the future timeline. Now, did I miss anything? And was I clear enough?

First of all a body cannot time travel the person has to leave his body in the present time to travel in the past. Only your heart can travel though time.Second of all you cannot  change the events in the past that is suppose to happen. Third of all you can only go back in time to where your body exists in that part of time. I hope this helps you.

You shoot your heart back in time to your past body and it helps if you plan when you receive your future heart so you plan some malicious shit

Ok i understand perfectly now, but can anyone do it? And if so why haven't our heroes done it. And if not, how can only xehanort do it?

Xehanort (Ansem's apprentice) split into a Heartless (Ansem SoD) and a Nobody (Xemnas). Since he was only a heart and had no physical body as Ansem (hence why he possessed Riku), he was able to go back in time without losing anything. Then, since they were the same person, he was able to give the power to travel forward through time to his younger self (Young Master Xehanort), who was then able to go forwards and collect the future Xehanorts.

So basically one dude moves from one point of existence to like a previous point of existence that once uh you know existed

and stuff

Yes anyone can do it. But our heroes didn't know it was possible until 3D which is why they hadn't done it before. Xehanort probably learned how to do it while looking through forbidden information on the Keyblade War.

Well, you see---*Head explodes from Nomura-ness*

.........Wibbly-wobbly...timey-wimey....stuff....*Dies*

This makes me think that if xehanorts backup to backup plan of trying to get sora in DDD was just not him trying to get him in the "seekers club" then and there, but to also pin point another mark in time where "he" once was.... Anyway, I have no clue how it works. I'm just wondering how he time traveled in the first place.

Even after explains how it works my mind can't understand it. Lol.

I had no issue understanding it.

I understand almost perfectly, but if you cant change what was going to happen, how did xehanort manage to get his younger self to change his life into being a xehanort recruiter. I think its cuz xehanort sent Ansem (seeker of Darkness back in time to tell him to do it, but i dont remember.. either way, doesnt that still kind of break the rules?

I think by "you cannot rewrite the events that are destined to happen," it means that there are certain things you can't change but others that you can change. Also, I think it may have to do with the fact that the time travel scenario that we have in KH is what's called a "stable time loop," which means there is no definitive first or last step in the time traveling.

Say you're YMX living on Destiny Islands with no knowledge of the outside world. You're approached by a hooded figure who gives you the power to move forward through time, you go forward, collect various incarnations of yourself and assemble them all in a future time, go back to your own time, grow up into Master Xehanort, become Terra-Xehanort and then Apprentice Xehanort, become Ansem (and Xemnas), then go back in time to find your past self and give him the power to move forward through time, and your younger self goes forward, collects various incarnations of you from throughout time...

See? It's a loop. There's no real starting point or ending point. In order for Ansem to go back and send YMX forward, he needs to have already lived the journey forward through time that he's about to send YMX on. So YMX doesn't rewrite any events. His effect on history has already taken place, otherwise Ansem wouldn't be able to go back and give him the power over time.

Glad that I could help! ^_^ I like finding ways to explain the difficult KH concepts. I still need a flowchart to explain Xehanort's various incarnations, though...
